I'm curious on why can't you earn points for the stay? is it because you are not physically there?
Wonder if the following trick will work: call the hotel up and tell them your parents-in-law are going to check-in first and you'll arrive later (although you are not) ,and you want to give them your cc# info., then they would think you will show up later thus you'll earn the points? it's just a thought.....
