I am very curios Hotel did some tricks for controlling the availability date of award night. (or minimize number of standard rooms)

Biggest befit of SPG is no award blackout date if standard room is available. It's positive that the hotel control award inventory somehow.

could you please review?
Hi jackhorse,

The standard room at Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, Sukhumvit 15 is Comfort room.

I have checked and system shows that Comfort room are sold out for June, July and early dates of August so you could not make award booking.

Confusing, eh ? Sunday being a weeknight for redemption pricing is a long-standing anomaly which SPG should really get sorted out, especially now as it's currently running a promotion in which (excluding the Middle East) it defines Sunday as a weekend night.

Not just SPG. I usually see Sunday - Thursday being the prime weeknights (and for some reason Tuesday being the worse). Some of the weekend specials will include Thursday or Sunday if Friday or Saturday are included. Typical for people to travel Sunday for Monday morning meetings. Makes sense to me.

they have 4 award rooms now... they have 268 rooms total... you can do the math

that's a very small number......... last year they "invented" the new room categories to limit award bookings....
nice trick... i wonder if there is a minimum of "standard" room types a property must have, if not, all hotels could set up new categories to make no standard award possible

I suppose if you wanted to mess with them back in the same way you could book a bunch of single night awards spread out and then cancel them just before the deadline.

My apologies in advance, but since there is no percentage of standard award rooms to total rooms that a property must meet, this would be a moot point.

Not without approval from SPG first, which seems highly unlikely. However, properties like this one who feel that their standard award rooms are not being reflected appropriately can seek approval to have them re-adjusted.

Thanks William, but disagree with your idea, It's absolutely consideration point.

+++

Property who doesn't want award guest will SETUP

# Limit small number of standard room as 2 - 3% of total number of room (for example 4 standard rooms of 250 rooms ; even less than 1% as 1 or 2 standard room.)

# Sold same rate(or very similar rate) between standard room rate and next category room rate

# Propery always say that we sold out standard room rate. Guest should pay more points for next category room or it's not available for award night. However SPG still can say we have no black out date for award night if standard room is available.

Assume that this is what Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok is doing and there is no award availability for June, July, parts of Aug.

Do you think It needs to improve or re-adjust conditions? Can you help on this issue?

My apologies, but we may have to just agree to disagree. I can't help with this issue. There is no minimum percentage of rooms that have to be dedicated to awards and this property is in compliance with SPG's expectations; although, I'm willing to grant that they aren't meeting your personal expectations.

William,

I think what's being asked is can we get an idea how many/percentage of rooms this property is declaring belong to the Standard Room Pool? It is understood that just one will meet SPG standards. However, if the property is not willing to be a fair participant in the program, why should we waste our time trying to book something there. Obviously they don't need/want SPG members booking standard award stays. Why hide that fact?

William, you know better than me. this is NOT personal expectation matter, it's TRANSPARENT MATTER of SPG loyalty programs.

This is same feeling like a store advertise we are on 90% sale off promotion but there is no actual discounted product in store.
