Thanks William, I hadn't seen that bit. I only asked because all the other promos seemed to send an email.

Now I just need to find a reason to stay more than one night at a participating property. Most of my stays coming up are at airport hotels which are of course one nighters.

"Consecutive" Nights

William,

I booked a 3-night stay before this promotion was announced. I was hoping to do the majority of the stay cash and points, but the option was not initially available and there was a pretty low prepaid rate. What I ended up with is the following as cash and points inventory was loaded later: N1=Cash, N2=C&P, N3=Cash. So I have a 3 night stay, with two of the nights cash. I assume I am out of luck, but hoping I can get something...

It's all going to depend upon how the hotel posts the stay, so I'm not able to confirm whether you'll get Double Starpoints or nothing at all. If you don't get anything at all, you can always call up the Customer Contact Center make your case, however.

the math on this promo vs hotel hopping for Plats

What gives? It's only a few extra points.

Kind of a turn off for international travelers.

Depends on how badly you need the stays to keep gold status. If you expect to barely make it, then jump around. If you are pretty confident in reaching it, grab the points.
The math is more obvious if you're Plat than if you're Gold.

As a Plat:

Hotel-hopping, you get the 500-point Plat welcome amenity on every night (unless you choose something else). Staying in one hotel, you get the double points (but not on your plat bonus) if it's two nights, triple points if it's three nights.

Ok, so the math: Your rate has to be over $250/night for you to come out with more points from this promo staying two nights at the same hotel, instead of hotel hopping and staying only one night at each hotel. Your rate has to be over $125/night for you to come out with more points from this promo staying three nights at the same hotel, instead of hotel hopping and staying only one night at each hotel.

So if you're budget conscious, yet want to earn maximum points, and are somewhere where there's choice of SPG properties with decent rates (below $250), and you only need two nights, ignore this promo and hotel hop if you don't mind doing that. You'll come ahead!

At three nights, it may get more even, assuming you're not staying for way under $125/night. (But it still depends if you're planning to requalify on points or stays, of course. If the latter, be happy that you don't lose much still on 3 nights by hopping instead of using this promo.)

It's only on stays that are longer (or more expensive) that the promo clearly trumps the 500 point welcome amenity (per night, if you hopped).

(Obviously, there are places where you can't hop, and also for many people convenience may trump earning the max SPG points. In those cases, though, the math presumably doesn't matter.)

But I am amazed at how bad a deal this promo is for someone who is Plat and only needs two to three nights in inexpensive places and has the option of hotel hopping (and doesn't mind it).

Another point to consider is "Make a Green Choice" option.

3 nights at the same hotel as a Plat with the option gives you 500 Plat amenity + 1000 Make a Green Choice points which comes out to 1500 bonus points AND the triple points for the rate.

At a hotel that participates in the Make a Green Choice program. But not all do, and as far as I can tell from the thread dedicated to it, there no simple list you can consult to see if a particular hotel you're thinking of staying at is going to give you that. It's not a program-wide feature.

While the Plat amenity is program-wide (tho, as I neglected to factor into my analysis, it's 500 at some brands but less at others, so my math only works at those brands where it's 500, obviously, while this promo works at all brands minus the big list of excluded properties ).

I don't think your hotel participates since hotels in the AP (Asia Pacific) region are not participating.

you will get no points since properties in asia are not participating in this promo....however, if you pay for your stay using a mastercard then you will end up getting 2 free nights for your 30 day stay....

- Earn double Starpoints on two-night stays
- Earn triple Starpoints on stays of three nights or longer.
Just wondering...why no extra tier bump for those of us who stay 5+ days at a property? I'm usually in for 5-10 nights, and while Green Choice (I'm nearly always at a W) definitely stacks up, it would be nice to see a long-stay promo with extra bonus for the guaranteed room revenue I'm bringing beyond three nights.

Agreed

Seems to be happening more often these days too

I also find it incredible that there is not one Starwood hotel at all now in New Zealand. WOW - oh well I guess I will have to visit IHG when I am there .

I find this promo disappointing to say the least!

Are the promo points supposed to post immediately? I just completed a 4 night stay at a participating hotel and had registered for the promo but I only got my usual 3x points as a gold. Should I contact CS or is there typically a delay?
