SQ or LH in First Class ?

Just redeemed some miles and booked FRA-SIN in First.

Both segments are on LH. Wonder if I should search for available First on SQ. Which is the better First Class ? LH or SQ ?

Thanks for your replies ^

SQ F beats LH F any day, be it in service, seat comfort/space or entertainment system. It will be difficult though to find a reward seat in F on SQ but YMMV.

SQ is better in the air, LH better on the ground in FRA (the amazing FCT+car transfer to your a/c or just-as-nice FCL without the car transfer are off-limits when flying SQ). Why not do FRA-SIN on LH and SIN-FRA on SQ to compare (and get the best of everything)?

In the air, SQ wins by a long way. On the ground at FRA LH is best but there it ends. In SIN, there's little to choose on the ground. The food comes from the same kitchens for both flights, that's a matter of taste but I prefer SQ every time. For consistency and service SQ - LH depends too much on the crew you get on the day, can be great and can be dreadful.

Sound advice. The First Class Terminal at Frankfurt is something very special that really should be experienced. It is far superior to the SQ F lounge in Singapore. However, SQ offers suites, whereas LH offers 2 x 2 seating on the 747. You want both the LH on ground experience and the SQ in air experience - so chosing the carrier flying from its home airport is the way to go.

My mate and me flew first with LH from EZE to LHR via FRA. Thought it was a total waste of miles. First with them was so over rated. The food takes ages to come, generally a very slow service. I thought that TAP's business class was better flying from LHR-RIO via LIS.

Flew 2 years ago business with Singapore and that was fantastic, so I would think that first would be even better. Do yourself a favour and cancel that First ticket with them and try and get onto SIN...honestly...really not worth it!

Tried to get 2 First on SQ - nothing available. I guess I have to stick with LH. SQ in Business would be available. But SQ C is not better than LH F, is it ?

Have you considered say, TG in F? Or even LX?

No, it is not.

SQ C
  • flat seat at an angle, 2 x 2 seating
  • adequate food
  • many business class passengers and appropriate FA attentiveness

LH F
  • level flat seat, 2 x 2 seating
  • good food
  • few F class passengers (16 on 747) and greater FA attentiveness

I've never flown LH F but I don't see how it can be superior to SQ's. We recently took SQ F CDG-SIN (with the new seat on the 77W) on our recent RTW trip which was fabulous in almost all aspects and IMO it is overall still the best F product out there when the factors of seating, service, IFE, and catering are blended and summed in together.

This week I will be flying LH from FRA to LAX then SQ from LAX to NRT and NH from NRT to JFK all in first. Will report as to my opinions of these three major STAR players...

I would alter this a bit

SQ C
Contoured lie flat at an angle seat
Good Food
Good attention from a highly consistent and well trained crew

LH F
Old fashioned level flat seat, no contouring possible
Adequate food, poor for F
Attention depends on the mood of the crew on the day, might be good, might be awful.

SQ's new C (which is available on the 10pm FRA-SIN) is definitely competitive with LH F, IMHO:
  • Fully flat bed
  • Private enclosed seat
  • Good food
  • 15" IFE screen
