You are entitled to a full refund. This option has nothing to do with a non-refundable ticket...... NOTHING!
If you reply, stating that that's not possible, according to LOT CSR, then you're not listening and we're wasting our time here making suggestions.
The regulations are the same whether it's EU or US.

Is it a personal problem for you, that people report here about the national Polish Airline screwing up so badly? Then I can only tell you, they actually screw up a lot and they are always very reluctant to correct their own mistakes.
I currently have an unbelieveable case of lost luggage with them, where they also don't want to play according to the rules!
