WearyBizTrvlr, thanks so much again for your outstanding effort.

I am very surprised to see that the Star fares from Egypt seem to be by far the lowest again...I thought they had been raised a lot? What happened? Did their currency get that devalued again?

This is seems to be the most painful update of the spreadsheet yet. You're right, the Egypt prices are incorrect. These were the only ones that thefareguru wasn't able to get an update for, and in the previous version I had already updated the ex-CAI prices in a non-generic way. By the time of this update, I had forgotten all about it, and overwrote the changes.

*sigh* :o

I just uploaded v1.6.3; hopefully this'll be the last iteration for now. :)

It turns out that I didn't notice that fares ex-CAI are posted in 2 currencies and I totally missed the majority of them which are in Egyptian Pounds. It's one of the few times that I've ever seen this situation where the fares in a currency that is not fully convertible exceed those in a hard currency [USD].

It's too bad that I didn't realize this before WBT did the update.

You can download v1.6.2 at the usual location:

Thank you! Great work! It seems that from European destinations the cheapest RTW is from Turkey! Well done!

Thanks!

Not that it's important but the Tunisian data appears to be off.

The Tunisian data has always been off, but it seems that those are still the ones in the system. I guess Tunisians just start out of CAI...

Also, there's a new version 1.6.5. No Star Alliance updates, but exchange rates have been updated as of today.

Oustanding. Turkey looks like a good deal for all Europeans who love the Star Alliance.

It's an actually all-around good place to start RTWs, and it's a favorite in the oneworld camp for European starting points. There we still can benefit from cheap ex-CAI prices too, which sadly have been ended for the Star Alliance RTWs.

Hi,

Does anyone know / know where to get

RTW fares from Karachi and/or Dubai?

Many Thanks :)

WearyBizTrvlr Mar 22, 2005 2:50 pm

Yet another update too!

Ex-DXB prices can be found in the spreadsheet for all alliances; I only have Pakistan for oneworld and SkyTeam.

On a more general note, there's a new version of the RTW Fares spreadsheet available (1.7.0). It's a oneworld update, so if all you're interested in is Star Alliance, you don't necessarily need to redownload. I did update the fx rates too, so v1.7.0 has slightly more recent ones than v1.6.5.

Thanks,

I found out the price ex Karachi, its around $3200 CAD, which is (surprisingly) similar to the ex-London price, and almost 2k cheaper than the ex Toronto. Does anyone know the cheapest place to depart for a RTW ticket? (Im using a new computer, and currently I dont have MS Excel so I cant download that thing)

Many Thanks

What is an FCASTAR fare? Is that a Circle Asia fare?

Does anybody have experience in getting a ticket in IST, ideally ticketing at the airport with a T.A./ *carrier? TIA.

Thanks for confirming that, Al. A travel agent tried to tell me that they were RTW fares with six months validity and an 18 segment maximum. I told her if she could issue me a RTW with those terms and prices that I would buy it, but that I thought it was probably Circle Asia.
