Another update

This still works for me in the 12 Jan version but not the latest.
In any case, there's a fresh update . Thanks to a fantastic effort by thefareguru all Star Alliance fares have been updated. Compared to v1.5 of 2-Feb-05 the biggest changes are (in local currency): Fiji: C up 15 to 20%, F up 12 to 15% Taiwan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, China, Hong Kong, Latvia, Switzerland, Canada, Euro-Area (some up 9%), Poland: up 5% for C & F South Africa: C & F up 15% UK: up 10 to 14% for C & F Singapore: down 5% across the board New Zealand, Denmark, Malaysia, Korea: up 8% for C & F You can see these changes on the hidden SAData sheet if you're interested in poking beneath the surface. Exchange rates have been updated too. |
For some reason I cannot see Star Alliance updated fares. Everything else is fine but not *A. It has some jibberish in every cell but "currency", "class", "miles" etc. No countries or prices though. :(

I use Excel that comes with XP-SP2. I had no problems reading your info a few days ago but now there's only jibberish as far as Star Alliance is concerned. Other alliances I can see fine. Let's see what others say about this. Maybe it's just my PC?

In the latest version, I found that some cells in the SAData sheet are linked to cells in the SATemp sheet. However, there are cells in the SATemp sheet that are #VALUE! and #N/A. Also, interestingly, in the January version (which works fine for me) there _is no_ SATemp sheet. cheers, Henry |
The good news is that I've been able to reproduce the lack of pop-down boxes on my Mac. It was one of those utterly ridiculous problems that had me tearing out my hair, as everything seemed just fine. Having wasted several hours trying to fix it, I had the luminous idea to go to Microsoft's site and see if it had anything to say. It did.
All I can say is AAAARGH. Sometimes I really do hate Excel. In any case, the trick seems to be to unfreeze the panes. This'll bring the pop-downs back. Go to the Window menu, then Unfreeze Panes. As for the garbled *A sheet, I have not been able to reproduce that. I'll put up a fresh version with the panes unfrozen anyway, but perhaps a redownload will fix it. Both my PC and Mac versions display the data accurately. The SATemp sheet should contain a few #N/As (Egypt for instance). I added that sheet for the latest version to make the import of the fare data easier. You may want to force a recalc (F9 on PC, cmd+= on a Mac). Perhaps that'll help. |

Yes, the drop-downs now work. But the data cells are still full of #VALUE! and #N/A, even after a forced re-calc. cheers, Henry |
No values in Star Alliance fare table. Dear WearyBizTrvlr, Please put up a new version. For yet another download of my favourite Excel Sheet

Thanks WearyBizTrvlr and those who contribute the data ^^

Could it be that need add-ins for Analysis ToolPak and Analysis ToolPak - VBA? (Tools menu, Add-Ins near the bottom, the analysis add-ins are the top 2 in the pop-up.) |
hmm, added the add-ins Kiwi mentioned and a few others. Doesn't help, still no values in the Star part of the Spreadsheet.
|
Do you have Excel set to manual calc? (check under Tools menu, Options, then calculation tab)
|
Most peculiar
Very strange. I've tested the spreadsheet by downloading it on three different machines with three different versions of Excel (inlcuding a Mac), and it all works just fine. Excel on my office PC takes several minutes to launch because of all the add-ins, so that's a pretty screwed up version of Excel there, however there should be no need for any add-ins. I haven't made any significant changes to the sheet, nor have I used any hitherto unused functions. Ah, the mysteries of Excel...
Since I can't reproduce the problem, I'll need a bit of help debugging this. First of all, unhide the columns to the right in the Star Alliance sheet. Do you see errors (#N/A or #VALUE) in the AO and AP columns? In AW8:BE8? In the SAData sheet, any errors in columns S, W or X? Errors in the block I7:Q38? The big block of data in columns B:E? Perhaps it's easier if you PM me or send me an email so as not to clutter up this thread too much. |
Problem solved!
Finally! The problem has been spotted by henry999, who noticed that it was related to decimal separators. I always use US number formats, but Excel pulls the separators (quite rightly) out of the system locale. If you had your locale set to using anything but decimal points the text-conversion function VALUE would not work. I needed that to convert the latest batch of fare data, so hence the problem.
You can download v1.6.2 at the usual location: RTW Fare Spreadsheet |
