Yet another wrinkle to be ironed out, I guess. I hope it stays because EK is a great way to get to one of my favourite destinations: the Maldives.

I would appreciate to see EK join, especially since they fly DUS-DXB. ^
You can accrue (even with class of service bonus 1, 1.25, 1.5) and redeem (at bad redemption rates) UA M+ miles on EK!!! ^

EK have repeatedly said they are not interested in any alliances. (Let's face it, they're doing pretty darn well all on their own.

As recently as the New York flights launch the CEO iterated again they are not looking to join an alliance, in response to a question from an industry journo.
If Qatar and Gulf jump in to an alliance each though, there may be some rethinking down the track, although I believe Qatar has also publicly stated they aren't interested in an alliance either. Gulf, on the other hand, seems to be very keen on the idea.
