Emirates in talks with Star
Last week I spoke to a very high ranking person in Emirates' Skywards program. She confirmed that EK was in talks with Star but that it would take time.I was hoping that EK would join ONEWORLD but she said there was no chance of that happening.

This would be excellent news. Emirates have a very interesting network and would be a good addition to *alliance.

Ek has been linked with both DL and SQ recently.UA and BA have been their partners from the beginning.Thing is that they just started their FFP 2 years ago so that takes time to settle.I think we should see EK in Star by next year.It would be a perfect match.

Lauda do some great business class deals Oz-Europe, like $3,700AUD in June. (A friend paid almost that in QF Y-class when she had to travel at quite short notice.) Only catch was you had to buy at least two tickets...
Anyway, lets hope EK does join Star, they would be a great addition. Speaking of plugging holes in alliances, what is the consensus about South African Airways? All the alliances are very weak in Africa, and SA would be a great fit in many of them - any predictions which way they will jump, or do you think they enjoy their independence?

EK have ridiculously cheap C & F Fares.
This would be a real boon. I don't fly with EK because I find most destinations (in Asia & Africa) end up being 7 Hours flying, 3 Stopping over at DXB and another 7 hours.
When the direct flight is 10 hours, it doesn't seem attractive. Then again a 2000 F RT to SYD would yield over 82000 LH status miles
Regards,
Alex
