I'm looking at UA881 from BOS-ORD-NRT as part of an upcoming award. ORD-NRT has C availability as per the ANA tool, but BOS-ORD only has Y. I've never used a 1 Coupon, Multiple Sector flight in an award before. I obviously want the C seat for the longhaul segment, but I don't care if I'm stuck in Y getting out to ORD. Does anyone know if I'll have to ticket this as two segments or if you're allowed to commingle classes on single coupon?
I'll be redeeming on US, and I know they're generally more flexible, but I will be bumping up against the max segment limit (4 per direction).

This is a question for the CO board but normally an award doesn't need to be limited to one coupon, usually you can have many more than that. So one ticket, two coupons should work in your case but the CO rules are what matters, nothing to do with *A.

Why does this have anything to do with CO? As stated in my original post, I'm planning on using US miles and flying UA. Whether commingled classes are allowed on a single coupon probably would not be a specific carrier rule, it would at least be an alliance rule.Originally Posted by DownUnderFlyer

Also as stated, I'm already planning on using 4 segments (coupons) per direction - 8 total. My question was whether I can get a Y award on the BOS-ORD segment of UA881 and a C award on UA881 from ORD-NRT, all while treating BOS-ORD-NRT as one UA881 coupon.Originally Posted by DownUnderFlyer

Yes, DownUnderFlyer jumped to an erroneous conclusion but it's easy enough to see why he came to the (mis)interpretation that he did. In your original post you do not say that you are 'planning on using US miles'; you say that you will be 'redeeming on US'. Moreover, in your mini-bio you identify yourself as a member of the CO FFP but say nothing at all about US. I'd say it's a fair mistake to make.Originally Posted by kopflyer

Sorry, I misread your post and thought from your profile that you are a CO member hence my assumption you were using CO miles. Didn't interpret the US bit correctly (thanks henry999).Originally Posted by kopflyer

But the the rules around max coupons, mixed coupons etc. are not made by *A hence my comments. It is only the US rules which determine whether they would allow you to add an extra coupon to your booking in this case or not. From an IATA perspective it has to be two coupons and you can not have more than 16 coupons on one ticket.

Sorry for the confusion, DownUnderFlyer - I appreciate your taking the time to consider this. If I decide to try & bend the US rules I'll report back whether I was successful. I may, however, just decide to play within the rules and book BOS-LAX,LAX-BKK instead of attempting BOS-ORD-NRT,NRT-BKK. Originally Posted by DownUnderFlyer

In case you're curious I'm trying to get from BOS to LLW - the long way around, so I can stopover in BKK on the return, all on one award.
I am also a CO member and I will be redeeming CO miles intra-Africa & intra-Asia. I find that US point requirements are better for the long-hauls and CO req's are better for intra-region.
