Timing question

Hi guys,
What are the chances that I get that CP in my account by 12/25 if I apply today? Trying to sneak in one more trip this year and the CP would really help.
Thanks for any new data points on when you applied and when the CP posted.

My wife made her first purchase on 11/14. Her first statement closed this week. We're still waiting for the CP email as well.

I feel duped - does not extend through 2019. UGH.

Sooo... I received my companion pass via the CC offer, then just today finally earned companion pass the hard way with 110,000 points. I read the Terms and Conditions that my companion pass would be extended through 2019 - apparently that's not the case. I called SWA and apparently I'm reading the terms incorrectly, I disagree. Here's what it says:
"If Companion Pass is earned by flying 100 qualifying one-way flights or earning 110,000 qualifying points in the calendar year while qualified for promotional Companion Pass through December 31, 2018, the regular Companion Pass qualifications will supersede the promotional Companion Pass, entitling the individual to Companion Pass through December 31, 2019."

Can somebody better interpret or explain? I knew it was too good to be true.

IIRC, a CP earned the "hard way" is valid for the year it is earned and the next year. Since you earned the CP the hard way recently in 2017, your CP is valid for this year (2017) and next (2018). If you read upthread, the strategy is to earn the CP the hard way in early 2018, thus the CP is valid for almost 2 years to the end of 2019.

Btw, welcome to FT.

Thanks - I jumped the gun and clearly didn't fully vet my plan. Ugh. I appreciate the response...I feel a little better. Think I'm gonna like it here at FT.

Data point: not sure of exact timing, but card received and first purchase made week after Thanksgiving, statement closed last week, and today CP appeared in my account (may have been there sooner, haven't really been checking)

Tried to respond earlier, but got stuck on a plane with no internet, le sigh...

I at least sort of agree, of course, it's common knowledge here that the CP is valid for the remainder of the year you earn it, plus the following year. That said, I'd probably fight for it if I were in his shoes. It really reads like WN screwed up - as though they only planned to make the promo CP valid for 2018, but ended up issuing it 'early' and neglected to change the terms to prevent this exact situation. I parse the T&Cs the same as the OP, and would try to find someone at WN with decent reading comprehension who might be able to give him what they inadvertently offered.

I assume they inadvertently left out the number I added in red.

Typical WN screwup with imprecise language in their offers and T&Cs.

The “regular Companion Pass qualifications” are “immediately, for the rest of the current calendar year and all of the next.” I am guessing that is what they are going to point to, and say no Pass ever goes longer than Jan 1 of year X to Dec 31 of year (X+1). But since they created the ambiguity because they cannot write, you have a good case, I’d say.

I wonder why the CP currently says valid through 12/30/18.

Hmm...

What does everyone think of this situation:

I applied Nov 20th, initially denied due to over 5/24 (but included some AUs). Called for reconsideration on December 11th and approved once the AUs were removed from the count. Does the "open" date backdate to the date of application? Will I get the CP? I'm sure I'll get the 40k points, but I really only care about the CP.

The terms state:
"(b) Individual must open a Rapid Rewards® Credit Card by November 30, 2017 "

side note: I called for recon on 11/28 and the rep said I was well over 5/24 because of some cards that were opened in Oct 2015 and first showed up on my Experian report as starting 11/1/2015. They said these counted for the 5/24 count and wouldn't listen to me that they clearly were opened before 11/1/2015. The rep suggested I call back in December as the next person would likely only look back to 12/1/2015. They were right.

I signed up for FT specifically to discuss this particular issue, because I am incredibly frustrated with WN. It reads very clearly that if you get the CP from the one time purchase and earn CP through 110,000 qualifying points in the calendar year, then you get the CP through 2019. I've talked with three different reps at the RR service center, two of which agreed with me saying the way I was interpreting it was correct but their management says they "meant" you had to earn the CP in 2018. Once I heard them say we "meant" to say 2018 I became even more firm in my position. I am fighting WN over the ambiguity of the language and they are currently not budging, but neither am I. I'm going to keep calling/writing until I get a rep who will go to bat for upholding the way the T&C were written.

I'll keep the thread posted on progress, and please let me know if anyone else has made headway with this situation.

Thanks.
