Frequently Asked Questions about Rapid Rewards Visa
1. What are the different card types?
non-business Plus, non-business Premier, business Plus, and business Premier.
Premier cards have a higher annual fee but give 6000 anniversary bonus points vs. 3000 points for the Plus cards. It is generally agreed that you will get the bonus for a new account if you have not had that particular type of RR Visa card before, but Chase appears to be in the process of changing their policies (see below).
Note that prior to RR-2.0, the two types of RR Visa cards were "Classic" ($29 to $39 annual fee) and "Signature" ($59 to $69 annual fee). Plus and Premier are new products for purposes of the (soon to be retired?) "One bonus per product" rule.
2. Is there a zero annual fee version?
No.
3. Can I "churn" these cards? How often can I reapply for the same type card and get the signup bonus?
The official rule has recently changed more than once. Closely check the T&C of your offer as different rules may apply to concurrently available offers. The Inflight offer linked above states:
Referral offers have been seen with a limit of one individual and one business bonus per lifetime (although T&C read by the CSR taking the application differed from those printed on the referral offer).
Actual results sometimes differ from the official rule. People have reported receiving the bonus a second time on the same card type at various intervals even when the bonus was officially once per lifefime per product. Please post your results here.
As of mid-May 2015 Chase has cracked down on applicants who appear to have much less than average attachment to their cards. Specifically, more than 5 applications within the past 24 months is the approximate cutoff: Chase crackdown on churners: Please report your RR Visa approvals/denials here
4. Can I cancel the card and still collect the anniversary bonus?
Yes. Reasonable people disagree on whether this crosses the line of exploiting the card issuer. The anniversary bonus is described a reward for having been a cardmember for the past year, not as a reward for paying the next year's annual fee. Based on that description, the bonus has been earned even if you then cancel the card. As a practical matter, there is a window of only a couple weeks to accomplish this. The bonus points will post on the billing date of the statement containing your new annual fee, which will have posted earlier in the billing cycle. You have 30 days from posting of the annual fee to cancel the card and have the new fee refunded.
5. Does the annual fee count toward the spending threshold for the signup bonus?
No.
6. When will my signup bonus post to my Rapid Rewards account?
If you have met the spending threshold at least several days before your statement date, the bonus will normally post 2 days after your statement date, not when you actually spent the money! Cutting the timing or the spending amount too closely is not advisable. Mistakes can happen.
7. My statement shows sufficient purchases to meet the spending threshold. Why didn't I receive the bonus?
This can happen if you met the spending threshold just a few days before the statement date. It appears that accounts are flagged for meeting the spending threshold independently of the statement generation process and less frequently than daily.
8. How can I determine my statement date?
You should call Chase (phone number on back of card) to check your next statement date. Credit card companies are now required to have payments due on the same numerical day of each month, which means closing dates vary throughout the year. (Before reforms enacted after the financial crisis, RR Visa cards had constant closing dates rather than constant due dates.) The closing date should remain within the same small range unless you request a change of your payment due date. When you request a change, Chase normally can delay your next statement but cannot accelerate it. If you are unwisely taking the risk of cutting your timing too close, you should call Chase more than once to confirm your next statement date.
9. I accidentally crossed the spending threshold in December rather than January. Can I return a large purchase to bring my spending back below the threshold?
Unlikely. It appears that the sweep to check spending threshold does not un-flag an account previously flagged as meeting the threshold. It's not even clear whether the sweep counts returns at all. If you realize the error before the statement closes and you have a payment due date change available, you might be able to push the December closing date into January.
10. Can I apply for a credit card in my wife's name but my Rapid Rewards number, so that the points funnel into my account?
People have tried this. Some have succeeded. Others have reported that Chase closed the account and posted no Rapid Rewards points. Do you feel lucky? Programs can become very aggressive when they suspect members of defrauding the program by using non-matching names. When you game the system you are only on solid ground if you follow the rules to the letter. Breaking the rules means that the program can penalize you if they want to, and believe me: They want to.
11. Can I scam this system in any other way? I just had a clever idea.
There is nothing new under the sun here on FlyerTalk. If it relates to established program rules and it isn't discussed here you can be confident your idea will not work.

I believe it's 2 years from the last time you received the bonus and I have never heard of anyone having two of the exact same Chase cards so I think the Premier card has to be closed before you open a new one.
If your looking to get CP for 2016/2017 I suggest getting either the SW Plus card or a Premier Business card around mid November. Make the entire spend after 1/1/2016 then figure out when you can get the Premier personal bonus again or the other card I mentioned.
It would also be a good idea to close that open Premier card now and also lower any other Chase credit lines you may have open

Flyer4512...thanks for the advice. I also have the plus and I got that bonus this past January. Should I close both now or just wait till I get closer to the 24 months? How hard is it to get the business without having An actual business?

I got denied.
I already have 2 chase person credit cards (Ritz Carlton, Hyatt) and both had pretty high credit limits ($38k and $37k respectively) and 1 chase business credit card (Ink Bold).
I applied for both a Southwest personal card and a Southwest business card. I own a real business with a tax ID number, etc.
However, both got denied saying that I have too many open accounts with Chase. Is there any way around this? Should I try applying again?
The day that I applied, I also sent a SM that they lower my credit limit on my 2 cards to $10k each so they did that. However, this was after I actually did the application.
The letter said that they checked my credit in Equifax and among the 3 credit bureaus, equifax happens to be my lowest score (711, 722, 753).
I got a car lease and chase RC card in december 2014 and signed up for the chase hyatt in march 2015. i cancelled a bofa card in march 2015.
I make a mid 6 figure income and usually pay off my full balance every month but always pay off at least the minimum. I rarely carry a balance more than 1 month.

However, if you haven't already, call Chase recon line and see if they will approve you know that you have lowered the credit limit on your other cards. Good luck!

Seems as if you next shot for CP would be in 2017
I have a business so I have no idea how hard it is to get a bus CC if you don't own one

Does anyone know how long this offer will last for the plus and premier? It seems Chase is offering so many good sign-up bonuses. Just got the CSP, Freedom a few months back. Just signed-up for Mileage Explorer, now I want these cards. Trying to see when the last chance to get these cards are because I really didn't want to work with 6k mimimum spend all at once, but if it comes down to that, so be it.

Hi. I'm new here , but I figured you guys might be able to help answer my question. I recently looked into trying to get a companion pass by applying for two SW Chase cards (I can come up with the extra 6K points I will need on my own). I have a son who is receiving a food allergy treatment in Dallas (we live in Houston), and I have been driving to Dallas every week. The companion pass would allow us to fly some weeks-- so I started reading up on how to get 2 SW cards, etc. All that to say, I am completely un-schooled in applying for multiple credit cards at once. I am a stay at home mom, both DH and I have really good credit scores (high 700's, low 800's), and DH makes a good income. All of our cards are in DH's name, though, not mine. So, here's what I did on Saturday:
--Applied for the personal premier SW card in my name-- was approved right away with a large credit limit.
--Applied for the business SW card in my name a few minutes later-- was sent a "we're still deciding" email. On Tuesday, I called the reconsideration line and offered more info. I was completely honest (I do a little bit of contract work writing curriculum, so that's my "business"), but I was denied for 1) Too many recent requests for credit and 2) Not enough projected business revenue.
So, do I give up on the companion pass idea and take my 50K miles and run, or do I try to apply for the personal plus card? I applied for the premier card first b/c I couldn't find a link for the plus card app. I have what seems to be a working link for the plus card app right now. Will I just get denied again for "too many credit requests?" Will it ding my credit to apply a third time in a week?! Thanks for any advice you have.

I generally wait at least 30 days between applications with Chase (especially when one is a business card, which involves tougher scrutiny); so, you may want to wait until July and then apply for the personal plus card (of course, the bonus may change). Hindsight is 20/20; but, if I apply for 2 cards from the same credit card issuer on the same day, then I apply for the one that is less likely to be approved first (in this case, it would have been the business card) and get it approved before moving to apply for the 2nd card.
If you apply for a 3rd card with the same issuer within a week, there's very little likelihood it'll be approved (outside of BOA...and this is Chase). Chase will wonder why you suddenly need all this credit from them.
Also, keep reading - there are a ton of ways to earn CPQPs toward a companion pass without SWA credit cards and don't involve flying and you'll only need ~57k CPQPs by 12/31. So, there's no reason to take your "50k miles and run."

I know that this exact question has been asked multiple times but the answer is to just apply for both personal cards. It's hard to get approved for a business card with Chase nowadays. However, it's a lot easier to get two personal especially if you have not applied for a lot of other credit cards recently. Some people apply for both personal on the same day. I waited 3 months but just b/c. So you should be able to apply the new card whenever you want. Good luck!
And I am sending warm thoughts to your son.
