RTW on Skyteam?

I've never done a *A RTW, only OW. Not sure if they "out-flat" *A, but OW have two products, of which the OW Explorer is continent rather than mileage based, so great for backtracking within continents (and maximizing mileage earning!) if you can keep it within 16 segments. Interesting, thanks for the pointer... I live in NYC and fly domestically a lot, so American isn't really that useful for me ... I make a lot of use of the free domestic upgrades, so sticking with DL or CO is probably what I want to do. Although backtracking a lot within north/central america certainly sounds interesting...
But to maintain status for domestic upgrades, better sticking with SkyTeam for DL or using *A for CO.

Also e.g. South America. You can fly into say Lima from North America, then via SCL on LAN to Easter Island, and then again via SCL to Rio, and then on to Europe or South Pacific and it all still counts as one continent.

shoot, looks like they've loaded new (very expensive) fares for RTW tickets. Strangely enough, KL seems to not have updated ex-ICN, but they refuse to sell me a ticket where the first flight is not on KL metal. Strange, since that's not in the rules ...http://twelvefruits.com/rtw27nov09.xlsx
In Economy, London has a relatively cheap base fare ($2877 for LRTWSKY3, 29000 miles). Pakistan is cheaper at $2596, but that's it. The Eurozone and US are above $4500.
In Business, cheap options include LHR ($7715), JNB ($6598), KHI ($5159 for Pakistan), DAC ($6175), DEL ($6505), HAN/MNL ($6679), ICN ($7332). The US fare is $8880, most of Europe is $9982.

Could someone help me work out a RTW using miles please (828000 available to spend) and give me a rough idea how much airport taxes would be for that trip. The young lady i spoke to at FB was not realy knowledgeable enough to be of any help.
Recommendations on places highly appreciated (Rio or Buenos Aires??? or other in South America)
Start in NCL (UK) - Rio or Buenos Aires - Tahiti - Sydney - Tokyo - NCL
As i have earned all my miles in Eco-cattle over the years, a little treat for my wife and I in Biz-class would be a nice change.

May I humbly suggest that your questions are more linked to what kind of holiday you would like to have and less to what kind of a SkyTeam RTW ticket you need. I would recommend you doing some research (on this website and other sources) to get a clearer idea of what you want, and then come back with a bit more specific questions. That way you can really get some meaningful help here. Whatever you do it will be an exciting trip anyway - but only you will know what kinds of things you would like.

But the system does seem a little bit unfair: the airlines take actual flown mileage (well, actual great-cricle distances between airports) for both the flights you've taken and for the flights you haven't taken (surface sectors count towards the mileage total, but in those cases it is the distance between the two 'stops', independent of the route taken).

If I break the journey with surface sectors would it count towards the miles calculation?
The rules states as follows -
Intermediate surface sectors permitted at passenger expense. Mileage for surface sectors will be included in the maximum permitted mileage calculation.
My reading of the above is that the mileage of surface sector will be calculated towards the total mileage permited. Correct?

I have a further questions regarding the rules.
In the rules it mentions that 2 transfers are possible in the country of origin (4 if the country of origin is the US). It does not mention anything about stop-overs in country of origin. Is it possible to make stop-overs in the country/city of origin?

Could anyone clarify on the travel rules regarding minimum stopovers? The rules require minimum 3 stopovers, how are stopover defined? Does pax need to stay more than 24h our a simple connection counts as stopover?

It is in the rules. Connections less than 24 hours are transits, while more than 24 hours are stopovers.@:-)
