All other cars in that group is XMAR except this car.

Please send me a private message with the reservation number. I will check with the branch to see what you will most likely get.

Generally, book an automatic you receive an automatic. In this case you booked a manual. We will note your request but we would not call you to say that whether or not you would receive an Auto or Manual. It can simply depend on what's available on the day and obviously the person who books an Auto gets the Auto above the person that books the manual and requests Auto as a preference.

Dear SIXT Team UK,

I have a reservation next week in Edinburgh (CLMR) and I wanted to ask what I possibly can expect as a car type - I'm still considering to rebook as IDMR, but the example "Chevrolet Cruze" doesn't make me happy enough for paying more...

Maybe you can just crosscheck? :)

Cheers

Hi Gr3yhOund,

In CLMR group you can expect VW Golf, Vauxhall Astra or Ford Fous. I hope this helps.

Hey Garry,

Thanks for your answer. Is there actually any other cartype in IDMR than the Cruze?

Cheers

In the UK only the Cruze in that category.

Let me know if you need any help with the finer details.

Is there some reference to the car category designations? (IDMR, CLMR, XFMR, etc)?

Also, I'm planning a one way rental this winter from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale. I'll pick up at MCO, but I'd prefer to drop off at the Port Everglades Cruise Terminal, rather than FFL. Is that possible? I see that Sixt rents cars there for cruisers, but I don't see anything about one-way drop offs.

Hi Gary:

We have a rental coming up in Germany in early November, for 7 or 8 days. I have been reading on some of the German car rental forums (through Google translator!) that it is possible to call ahead to a station to request a particular car? Is that true? If so, is there a special procedure to follow when doing so? Or would it be possible to contact you/your colleagues directly a few days in advance to make the arrangements?

I was looking at reserving an LDAR or SSMR class. Can you confirm what types of vehicles I may expect to find in those classes?

I signed up for Sixt Gold but I think I may qualify for Platinum status based before the trip begins. Is it possible to upgrade my status before travel, to take advantage of Platinum benefits?

I'm sure more questions will come up as the departure gets closer. Just looking for some initial information. Thank you!

You can add a note to your reservation which might be read by the employees in the station... may. You probably can phonecall the station, but that won't change much in most cases - you are still booking a class and not a special car. (i.e. if you rent a M3 etc. thats different)

LDAR is currently mixed by some 525d, 530d and a very few 535d on the BMW side. Audi are currently A6 3.0 TDI 204PS, some 245PS, some of them quattro, some not. Merc just 4 or 5 E350 CDI in whole germany...

SSMR are mostly Audi TT TFSI or Peugeot RCZ, some VW Scirocco.

CDW/LDW ?

Hi Gary,
I'm getting ready to rent a car for 6 days in Ireland. I have a World MC that will take care of the CDW/LDW. Are there any optional coverages you would recommend I take, such as Glass & Tire coverage?

There will 3 adults & two of us are ~6' tall. Will a Ford Focus work for us? Probably will have 3 or 4 suitcases (21"-22" rollers).

I also noticed that on the very last page a fee was added for "Taxes" of $46. Is this an airport facility tax? The total, with taxes, is $377 (6 days for a Ford Focus with AT). Holiday Autos is about $40 less. Tell me why I should rent from Sixt. :)

Thanks!

UPDATE: I just found a VW Golf (CDAR) for a total of $330. Is that about the same size as a Focus? I appreciate your help!! :)

@Gary: Do the Cruzes have Navigation or USB/AUX-in inputs?

OsoJoe Aug 17, 2012 8:33 am

Hi Gary,

I just made a FDAR reservation at Dusseldorf City/Train Station in September and I have a couple of questions. First, what kind of vehicles are in the category there? I did reserve a Sat Nav guaranteed. Are all your units built into the vehicles or are they stand alone units? Can you switch the language to English?

Second, You have a minimum driver's license held period of 2 years. I've been driving since I was 16, so going on 13 years now but I moved last year and had to get my address changed on my license. In my state, they "re-issue" the same license number so the issue date on mine says 31/5/2011. Will this be a problem?

Thanks!

What's that about ?

This year I've rented a number of times from Manchester Airport.
The prices were always competitive .

I've got a whole bunch of 1 week rentals coming up starting next week and I find that now the cost of a car at Manchester Airport has shot up way beyond the price of the city centre branch. Why ? what's changed?

So now I will have to go with my luggage into the city, to a branch that has much shorter opening hours, or else pay a hugely inflated rate

In addition:
Whereas previously a 30 day rental ( with its mileage restriction ) was cheaper than 3 10-day reservations (unlimited mileage) now the exact opposite is the case.
Why on earth would you have such a price structure.

Each 10 days now I'll give back the car, and have another one instead, how can inconveniencing me possibly help your bottom line?

Going back to the sixt UK site today I now find that the prices are in Euros.

You're forcing me to look again at your rivals

Can you send me the booking parameters for your long terms versus short.
Also screenshot of Euros price

where can you book XFMR?

Mercedes ML and BMW X5 and Audi Q7 do not even exist with manual transmission.

Hello Gary,

I am looking for a large station wagon to transport 5 people and luggage from Nuremberg to Munich and back. I looked on the sixt.de website and came across the LWAR rate. Is it guaranteed that I will get a wagon? My 2 contraints are wagon and automatic. I just cant afford to not have these both satisfied as my family needs to reach Munich's airport by a certain time.

Your advice is appreciated and I have also sent you an email with the details.

Thanks,
Niro

Hi Gary:

Just wanted to try re-posting these questions in case you missed them...Greyhound helped me out with the car class question.

Thank you!

Platinum status is worthless.
you cannot call a Sixt station directly.

what you read was about customers who have a longterm relationship to the station and may therefore receive the tel number.

just use the free text field to place your wishes/requests.
