Question, is it fine to drive to Belgium? I need to be there one night then back to drop off at FRA? Also, I have reserved a manual 3 series for now.. if I need Auto can this be changed on site?

^

Driving to Belgium should be okay, Sixt allows all brands to be taken there. Regarding manual vs. automatic, it really depends what they have on stock!

Figured I'd ask these here (have posted in other threads as well). My wife and I haven't rented a car in Europe before but are very much considering renting a car in Switzerland (we're going to be in Appenzell but it looks like the closest Sixt is in St. Gallen at the airport) to drive to Munich.

1) What is the cancellation policy on pay at location reservations (no deposit made)? I doubt we'll need to cancel but there's always a chance we make some last min changes to our trip plans and need to change the date and/or cancel the car outright so want to make sure I'm clear on the rules around this!

2) Can I still get a Platinum Card by having top tier SPG plat or UA 1K status? I found a link through google that seemed to indicate this but wasn't able to sign up through it. I did get a gold card but am hoping I can upgrade :)

3) Is any extra insurance required for driving across borders besides what's included in the base rate?

4) This is more specific to our trip but is the only Sixt location in St. Gallen at the airport? We'll be taking the train from Appenzell that arrives downtown and it's another 45min bus ride or a 20km taxi ride to the airport we're hoping to avoid.

Thanks!

1) you should really read the small print for this. chances are high that they organise a special car for you in switzerland that can be taken to germany. and they wont be happy if you cancel that last minute. there is no small print for such a case so you should get written confirmation from the customer service desk

2) platinum is more or less worthless. I dont see the point, but anyway: if you send an email to customer service with your card detail they will match you or let you know that it is not possible. they are the only ones who can match the status.

3) it depends what base rate you have. for crossing boarders as such you dont need extra insurance with Sixt. (this is different with other rental companies in Germany!)

4) there is a map on sixt.com which shows you where the stations are directly on the map.

If a rental is prepaid (Credit card already charged for June rental), is there still a double/triple hold also placed at time of rental?

Sixt staf,

I see that MUC now has C63 and M5 available to rent. Any chance these will be coming to FRA? Looking for a July rentral...

Hi Hummel,

Our fleet is being updated all the time so I can certainly look into this with the branch. I notice in an earlier post you state you have placed a reservation and you need some information about cross border rental in Belgium and changing your vehicle choice to an automatic transmission. Please forward me your reservation number in an email ([email protected]) and I will be happy to answer these plus any other questions you have.

Kind Regards,
Gemma - Sixt UK Customer Service Team

Hi Jojo3d,

Sixt do hold an approval on all rentals. This is usually double the cost of the rental but can vary depending on vehicle group and location of pick up. If you would like any further information specific to your reservation I would be more than happy to advise on the deposit. Please drop me an email ([email protected]) with your reservation number and I can look into this further.

Warm Regards,
Gemma - Sixt UK Customer Service Team

I would be happy Sixt representative could tell his opinion

Hi Gary,

I've made reservation for Auto car (Open Insignia and similair) in Sixt Munich Airport and two issues really bother me:
Spare wheel - I don't know how do use "repair kit" in case of a problem with the tire . In my car at home I have a spare wheel. Is it possible to get one? I'm just afraid of getting stuck somewhere in Alps without knowing what to do.

Brakes - how can I make sure the brakes are good? Do all your cars not more than 6 month old? I'm going to do all the way down from Seefeld in Tirol (or similair) every day for 3 weeks and might use the brakes a lot.

Hello,

I have not been able to add my SAS Eurobonus number to a rental during online check-in or when trying to credit the miles retroactively. However, I am able to do this with my Miles&More number. Is this a bug in the system?

Any advice on getting a rental credited to my Eurobonus account would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Bat2323,

Thank you for choosing Sixt for your rental.

Our fleet come with either a repair kit or spare wheel depending what is factory fitted, we also offer 24 hour breakdown assistance in the event of any difficulties, however I understand your concerns if you will be travelling in isolated areas. If you would like to provide me with your reservation number and I can look into this further with the branch.

We do pride ourselves on a very new fleet and all of our cars and vans are checked before and after every rental so there is no reason to be concerned about the conditions of the brakes.

Please feel free to email directly ([email protected]) and I will resolve any queries and put your mind at ease by speaking to the branch abut your rental.

Kind Regards,
Gemma - UK Customer Service Team - Sixt Rent a Car

Hi the_horvaths,

We are sorry you have not been able to claim your points. There are no known issues preventing this for happening so if you would like to confirm in an email to [email protected], your reservation or rental agreement number and your SAS Eurobonus membership number and I will look into this in order to find out first of all why this is not crediting but also to ensure any relevant points / miles can be added.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Many Thanks,

Hello Gemma

I have a question about an upcoming rental in FLL. Rather than clutter the board with the details, I have sent you and Gary an email with the necessary information.

Thanks in advance for your help

Reservation for Freiburg, July

Hello, I posted a message before, asking for BMW 5 GT in Freiburg this July

(Because I plan my route in Google map, and the destination can be sent to the car so I don't have to manual key-in in the car. All I need is a BMW Assist account name. How can I know the BMW Assist Account name?)

I had not got answers from Sixt Freiburg yet. Who should I contact?
Thanks!
