I'm sure Sixt will ask you to PM your details for further clarification. Being platinum doesn't afford the upgrade privilege unless you rented 20 times (10 if member is based in US and some other countries) in the past 12 months.
What I'm also after is an explanation of why Platinum is such a hollow benefit with Sixt and what the point is of having a Platinum card if it doesn't afford you any benefits. However, this part I'm not holding my breath for. |

Correct - that's exactly what I'm after. I'll happily PM the details and if I have to up my class to get the CLA/228i, will do so.

Sixt reply
Hi highlanderfil,
Many Platinum memberships do have either a single or double upgrade included, subject to availability. However there are some instances where the Platinum membership does not have this upgrade option, and it just offers a discount of up to 15% on all standard hires. This depends on how you received your Platinum status i.e. through status matches or by renting the accepted number of times, and also how often that you rent a vehicle after your status was determined as Platinum. If you can send me a private message with your Platinum card number I will be happy to advise you further. If you are eligible for an upgrade then I will contact the branch on your behalf to ensure of this, however as always please note that the upgrades are subject to availability. Many thanks, Jess.

I'm hoping the good folks at Sixt Customer Care address this, since similar questions have come up numerous times over the last few weeks on FT. Here's the situation:
I am a Platinum Card holder, have been for a while. I do not rent from Sixt very often (mostly when I'm in Europe and it's been over a year since my last trip). However, when I log into my account, sure enough, I'm still Platinum. Now, I am about to give Sixt a try with a reservation at LAX (now that a CLA isn't $200/day and a Corolla isn't $150/day there for my dates, for once), but was wondering if my Platinum status means anything at all with respect to getting an upgrade. I don't want to arrive at the rental desk and be told that I am not eligible for one. Right now, my targeted class is PCAR, so I've been advised to book an SCAR. The difference is about $35 for four days, which isn't huge, but when the denominator is small enough, it's a rather substantial %. What I don't want to happen is to show up, be told I'm not eligible for an upgrade and then be offered one at something like $10-20/day as others have been. In that situation I'll just walk away and book a Silvercar. However, I'd rather not, so I want to get clarification on what it means for me to be a Platinum member at Sixt in my current situation. |

Not sure I follow. Every other competitor requires annual re-qualification to maintain elite (and privilege).

FYI, called the Sixt LAX location. Was told that my reservation does have an upgrade attached and that would mean either an Audi A3, a Merc CLA or a BMW 228i and they do have all three in their fleet and in stock. Will see what happens when I get there, I guess. |

According to my account info at Sixt, I still have Platinum status, but not the benefits. Should be I either lose status or keep the benefits, no?
for example, sixt website says this about world elite cardholders. World Elite Benefits Enjoy savings of up to 10% on Sixt rent a car / rent a truck worldwide Enjoy a complimentary upgrade to the next higher car group at Sixt rent a car worldwide, subject to availability Receive 92 miles (150 kilometers) additional mileage for Sixt luxury carsReceive additional perks and savings with a complimentary Platinum Sixt Card, normally only available to customers renting 10 or more times per year. With the Platinum Sixt Card, you will enjoy savings of up to 15% on Sixt rent a car / rent a truck worldwide. You will also enjoy preferred reservation priority and the convenience of special Sixt Platinum counters/parking lots at selected airports/stations. link : http://www.mastercard.us/travel/worl...tml?id=1448788 I dont think there are 2 kind of platinum status.. if there are please correct me... 1: platinum with all the platinum benefits.? 2: platinum with NO platinum benefits.? Sixt uses this term everywhere and all the time either on phone OR online, * SUBJECT TO AVAIABLITY * to their benefit. They may have 10 or more 1 class higher vehicles for upgrade you being platinum member, but simply wont upgrade you by saying , they are not available, because, upgrade is subject to availablity. |

OK , so getting platinum by status match doesn't mean anything?

This would imply that yes, not all Platinum memberships are created equal. |

Got to admit still not understanding the concern. With Hertz/Avis/National you have to requalify every year to get upgrades. Seems inline with competition.

Oops, Canceling prepaid rental?
I need to cancel a PrePaid rental which begins Jan 12th in MCO. I didn't pay close attention , when I booked online. My fault, didn't realize it was a prepaid rate.
Anyone have any success getting the 3 day fee waived on a 1 week rental? Thanks |
I reserved a full size car at SAN, arriving around midnight Jan.7, was offered to pay for an upgrade for "something nicer", declined since full size is good enough for me. Then was subject to a hard sell for extras and insurance. Declined everything since covered by Amex.
They then gave me a VW Jetta and told me it was a full size car. I did not argue since it was past midnight and very tired. Now when I got online and searched it turns out Jetta is not a full size car. We were a bit cramped with five people and luggage. I specifically booked and paid for full size to be comfortable, even though standard / midsize was available way cheaper. I am returning the car in a couple of hours, and they will charge me the price for the full size, since they insist Jetta is full size. I don't have the time to argue before my flight. Any ideas how I should approach it? |
