Next year we're planning a trip which will take us from Canada to Japan and both New Zealand and Australia.
We're looking at flying into SIN from Japan, probably on SQ635 from HND, arriving at 12.35pm on a Friday afternoon.
Our intent is to continue on to Auckland, either direct on Jetstar or via Australia on QF. (The non-stop SIN-AKL QF flight is too expensive!) on Sunday evening. (Rather than trying to connect the same day we are looking at staying in Singapore for a couple of nights.)
Ideally we'd like to find a reasonably priced hotel with late check-out options but with easy access to shopping.
Right now this is just in the planning stage. Originally we had planned to fly non-stop NRT-AKL on NZ but thought that detouring via SIN for a couple of days might be nice if the price is right and schedules work.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

You need to define what is 'reasonably' for you. It might not fit the reality on ground. Just a hint - cheapest rooms (w/o windows) in the cheapest district (which no so incidentally is the local red light district) start from $80/night.
If 'shopping' means malls then the only option is vicinity of Orchard rd. Expect that rooms are starting from $200/night.

For the 2nd point on late c/out and easy access to shopping, hotels with guaranteed late check out options are usually airport hotels (Crowne Plaza) or Club room with access to executive floors (Shang, Mandarin Oriental comes to mind). Shopping is readily available everywhere if you are looking at high street shopping, but is that what you are looking for? or would you prefer something more ethnic/cultural??
Is this your first trip to Singapore? Any idea what you might want to cover in your couple of days in Singapore? This will also influence your accommodation decisions as well

Hotel status can give you a guaranteed late checkout, for instance for SPG and Hyatt.
The latest formal checkout time in town seems to be Shangri La Valley Wing, IIRC 8pm.
