Checking in box with dry ice
My wife and I have a trip to Shanghai and Singapore next year. We aren't bringing our infant daughter, so my wife will be pumping breast milk during the trip (about 8 days). Due to logistics, we'll freeze the milk at the hotels but need to keep it frozen for safety.
My plan is to bring some ice packs for daily use and the flight from PVG-SIN and bring along a styrofoam box in cardboard as a cooler. But for the trip home to LAX I am worried that the ice packs may not be enough if there are any delays or if the luggage sits somewhere warmer for longer than expected. So I'd like to buy a block of dry ice while in Singapore and pack it for the trip home, then check in the box with our luggage.
I called the local SIN office and they said it should be OK but couldn't confidently tell me the policies in Singapore. Making the international phone call simply isn't that easy, and in either case I'd be worried that what I hear from the representative could be different from what I experience at the airport. The FAA clearly states that a passenger can carry on or check 5 lbs of dry ice but Singapore's rules might be different.
Does anyone have experience checking in something with dry ice in it from Singapore internationally?

max 2.5kg dry ice, must be packed in a venting container
you will need to speak to SQ as well, as it requires special handling

Yup, given the shorter trip and less milk from PVG-SIN I'm not too worried about the trip to SIN. I'll just pack the box with more ice packs. From SIN-LAX there will be less space for extra ice packs thus more of a concern about melting.

I did a bunch of research, could never get a firm answer from Singapore Airlines, so I had developed a backup plan to ask them on arrival and to ship it via FedEx if they said no. I had sourced some dry ice and bought a shipping box that I would have checked in with my luggage (wasnt confident about finding an appropriate box there). I even bought some just add water cold packs in case the dry ice supplier fell through. And then COVID cancelled my trip. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
