Err... why PremierMiles? Shouldn't you link to UOB PRVI Amex instead and earn 1.6 miles per $1 top-up, as compared to PremierMiles at only 1.2 per $1 top-up? Personally I ditched Maybank after they rejected my wife a couple of weeks back (suspect it's due to its archaic credit management policy that rejects Singapore PRs that aren't over a year old). And since then my allegiance has switched to UOB PRVI Amex and, where Amex isn't accepted, then DBS Altitude Visa for local spends - even PremierMiles isn't as competitive in that regard.

As for foreign spends, I would use UOB PRVI Amex to earn 2.5 miles per $1, and where it isn't accepted, then PremierMiles at 2 miles per $1. But where foreign spends are shopping at department stores and boutiques, Citibank MasterCard is the card of choice at 4 miles per $1.

I don't use UOB PRVI AMEX and DBS Altitude cards because they need to transfer in blocks of 10,000 miles, which is very difficult to create. Also they award the points for every S$5 spent. Will lose out on the rounding off part. I split my expenses with Citi Platinum for supermarkets (5x), Citi Rewards (10x), Clear Platinum for cafes (5x), Foreign transctions 5x (Maybank Horizon VISA Platinum, round up S$0.50 to S$0.99 to 1 point instead of round down like Citibank cards). I carry multiple cards, hence will earn more miles compared to charging only to either UOB or DBS card which will take about 4 months to create that 10,000 miles block and earn less miles.

"But where foreign spends are shopping at department stores and boutiques, Citibank MasterCard is the card of choice at 4 miles per $1." Agree with you on this.

While that might be true, it certainly doesn't sound right...

AMEX Rewards card is best grocery card ONLY at Cold Storage/MarketPlace on Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays. Up to 6.5x MR points or 4.0625 per $1 spent.

AMEX Platinum card is best grocery card ONLY at ION's Marketplace at level 4 bcos of the 10x MR points.

Other than that, the Citi Platinum VISA (discontinued for application) is best. S$1 = 2 miles.

I got 75k miles. As for the escort. You don't know if there is a queue or not until you get there. In BKK last weekend it worked wonders. Cart to immigration and escort to the train.

75k? How so?

It's 35K now upon joining it seems

You can actually get up to 7x MR points at CS/MP => 5 (base points for Fri/Sat/Sun) + 1 (1st 3 months) + 0.5 (Favorite 5) + 0.5 (annual spend >$5k)

After the first 3 months, it's still 6 MR points per $ or 3.75 miles. Pretty decent.

Here's a tip:

3x = $0.83/mile or $1 = 1.2 miles

What do expect? In some airportlike TPE and KUL LCC there is no immigration fast track counter. So nothing they will just escort you.

In BKK what I like is buggy service which I was told it is back. The fast track lane in BKK may be also quite ome queue.

I like in CGK coz the fast track is really specil queue. The girl will take my paspport and clear it with immigration officer while I just wait on side... No queue at all

I get that part. What some folks at another forum (hardwarezone of all places) reported was that they did not get special immigration line (fast track) access in places where it is offered. I have colleagues who were escorted to the "regular" immigration line in BKK and left there to queue. No access to Fastrack lane. In CGK I agree it can save lots of time if you are really being brought to Fastrack and escorted through. However, it seems to be a hit and miss. That's at least what I have heard. If your experiences are different that's great and feel fee to share.

False alarm on the Maybank Horizon card.

EZ-link is still in the list for 10x tr'eats points (or 4 miles per $).

I think the website was updated after 4pm or 5pm on 02 July 2012. Just called Maybank, the agent at first say EZ-LINK does not award 10x points anymore. I told her website say extend to 31/12/12. After that she go and check, say still award 10x, just made the changes today. DAMN!!! I just delinked my EZ-Link cards on 01 July. Now need to wait 5 days to relink it back to Maybank! In Jan 2013, I will wait till the official list in the website!!

Maybe 1 of the Maybank staff read this forum and changed their mind. I called the hotline 3 times on 01 July 2012 to confirm. All 3 said no more!!

In MNL I was escorted to the wheelchair counter where there was no queue. Then they picked up my bag off the belt, walked me through the Red customs channel (again avoiding the queues) and put my bag in the taxi boot.

Will let you know what they do in BKK next week.

Cart=buggy. Two girls.

BTW the first time I tried to use it the cart/greeter was a no-show. I was offered 5k points as compensation.

I noticed that HSBC give 5% rebate for ColdStorage. Does anyone know how that works? I don't see it in my statement.

My family and I are moving to Singapore in a few months and I'm wondering what the consensus among the experts on credit cards in Singapore (you guys) is on what cards I should keep/get.

I fly United primarily and try to stick with Star Alliance carriers in general to earn points on MileagePlus. However, I'm also willing to look at any card that offers a good deal. :D

My wife really wants a card that grants lounge access, but I haven't found any Singaporean cards that grant unlimited access. Are there any? If I got a United Club card (or the equivalent credit card), would that give me access to the KrisFlyer Gold Lounges at Changi (if I'm on a *A flight)?

Do any of the Singaporean cards allow you to earn miles toward premier status on SQ or do they only let you earn miles for award redemptions?

In general, are the Singaporean cards competitive with the best US cards for earnings/benefits? After all, I could just keep a good US card with no foreign transaction fees and use it as my go to card in Singapore.

Thanks in advance. There are lots of credit card/points/flying tips type websites out there for US residents, but I haven't really found any for Singapore residents.
