SAS Cancellations

Does anyone have experience dealing with SAS canceling their long haul flights? They canceled my LAX to CPH flight for today. When I called them, not only did they take over an hour to get through to, they were useless. While there were ample flight options today, they offered only a narrow set of options tomorrow - none of which were good. You would think they would feel bad and try to do the right thing. Not so much; not even an apology. Hopefully, the eu 261 comp, etc happens with much less difficulty.

In my experience they are quite helpful in these situations, especially if you tell them what you want to be rebooked to, but there is a huge difference in quality and willingness to help between different agents. HUACA is often a good choice but of course that is not the optimal solution if it takes an hour for them to pick up.

They are not quick but normally reasonable if it is a straight forward EU261 claim.

Thanks. I did speak to three or four different people. The best one was just ok, not good, and certainly not resourceful. But he tried. I guess thats something.

"When I called them, not only did they take over an hour to get through to, they were useless." - This sums up 97% of my experiences with SK's 'agents'.

Just out of curiosity, when did you find it was canceled and did they offer you any self-service options online to change flights or cancel for a refund or were you just automatically rebooked? I'm wondering as I have a SFO - CPH flight booked later this year and I'm wondering if I should have something booked as a backup if I don't want to accept getting there a day or two later.

When my SFOCPH canceled earlier this month. I got an auto rebooking on lufty a day later via FRA.

the agent was useless despite telling them the flight routing i want. I dont see that. Im like. This is an INVOL reroute and you can pull up any availability. This was SAS trying to save money. Ironically. They were all star alliance flights available.

i looked up on EF the availability. Despite feeding them the routing. Sorry we dont see that option.

again. I know why SAS went bankrupt. Especially when i cant get a Rez agent after EU business hours. You are a global carrier. Act like it.

Interesting that the airline automatically rebooked you on Lufthansa the next day subjecting them to EU261 payment of 600 euro. Maybe this flight saved them more than 600 euro over other options.

it was thier auto rebook option.

if they put me on BA. They would have saved 600 euros. They cant say it was my option to be delayed. I woke up to them rebooking me a day later automatically.

still havent seen the payment yet despite 3 weeks now since i filed.

I guess they have no agreement and system access with BA but still with LH through the *A days.

Usually SK is paying the compensation quite reliable and never waited more than a few days.

While likely it seems odd as well. I've been rebooked on plenty of alternative carriers during cancellations over the years including AF, KL, LH, LX, EK, EY, CX, NH, SQ etc but they seem to systematically avoid OW except for CX.

Yes, they gave me one option the next day on Air France. I pointed out that there were many options that same day (Inc on Air France) but they gave me the run around. Eventually, they gave me a better option the next day, but it was on overall overly complicated and disappointing process

same, they could have saved the 600 euros plus - assuming they pay that - had they rebooked me for the same day. There were many options, but they said they couldnt see them. Made no sense, as one of them was Air France, part of the same alliance.

When a SK flight went MX at HKG (so a few years back), the first alternative they rebooked us into was AY. I declined that because I needed the extra bag allowance with *A.

Back then SK had no agreement with TK/SQ/TG.

In 2022 they were on strike and the only options were Egypt Air or LOT ex-YYZ.

SK usually pays out - it takes time. UA is the best in paying out EU261. I got the $ in my bank account within 48h after I filed the claim.

Hi!

how long does it usually take from cancellation to getting the email with options?

SK1707 just cancelled on me for Apr 6, messing up my itinerary from HEL-CPH-YYZ

Called into the North American call centre and basically got told to pound sand while waiting for rebooking options to come via email (was surprised that it only took a couple minutes to get through to someone)
