European Entry/Exit System (EES) - experiences as BA passengers | master thread

Check in should open at least an hour earlier at Prague Airport due to the diabolical queues at passport control

That's not BA's fault? Maybe this should be on the Europe country forum?

Just went through FCO literally 30 minutes ago.

UK passport holders are directed to a machine which takes your photo and fingerprints (even if youre already registered on the system), then you go through an e-gate. No passport stamping or manned passport control.

For more info and other experiences of EES I suggest following the main EES thread in the Europe section of FT.

Well, I think it's quite relevant here because it can be airline dependent. In DUS for example, BA pax are not really affected by outbound queues at the border (Terminal C which has a better set up) whereas Eurowings often now has to delay their departures to the UK because of a silly set up in Terminal A).

Why would the process need repeating once a pax has already registered on the new system at any other EU airport? Thought it was a one-off registration?

Italians seem the only ones that have successfully managed to introduce the EES with kiosks and without queues, at all entry points. My experiences in VCE, FCO and MXP were excellent if compared to the chaos in Prague or Lisbon. I saw some people being referred to an agent after the kiosk (maybe if you have a less powerful passport or history of long and repeated visits). On departure there's no kiosk registration, just the usual eGate.

This makes me sad.
I've got a trip to LUX and BER before April and hoping for the last few stamps before it ends completely. Hoping they'll still do it there.

BER will stamp you 100%.
Italy has always been redundant with passport stamping, even before the EES. They have their own digital system since years, so stamping has always been unnecessary for their internal records.

The issue being that you can leave through other Schengen countries so without an entry stamp the border staff get confused.

Any recent Salzburg experiences? Heading there on the 1st and wondering how much time we'll get taken out of the day trip.

In case of a missing stamp and a departure through another Schengen country airport, a boarding pass will be sufficient to prove your entry on that date. Plus, if youre exiting through an airport that has the EES in place, they wont even look to the arrival stamp.

Salzburg has the EES in place.

They have set up even a special arrival area for the EES registration with plenty of kiosks.

prior to ees stamping was always done in Italy. As noted, it was essential for monitoring your Schengen allowance across the region. The Italians having their own system doesnt help a danish immigration officer working out how long you have been in Schengen in the last 90 days.

and yes Szg does have ees in place but that doesnt automatically mean its fine - just look at PRG or LIS or a few others where people are now reporting multi hour delays. However, having been to Szg recently I can say in my experience it was quick and didnt delay my entry - albeit it will be slower if you happen to land just after another non-Schengen flight - we were the only ns at the time.

It was pretty bad on the 27th, but three flights had arrived in close succession so it was extremely busy. The furthest right queue was a lot quicker than the others. They've got machines so you can register before getting to the kiosk, I think in normal times you are expected to use the machines but they weren't enforcing that when I came through, got prints and photo at the kiosk.
