Italians seem the only ones that have successfully managed to introduce the EES with kiosks and without queues, at all entry points. My experiences in VCE, FCO and MXP were excellent if compared to the chaos in Prague or Lisbon. I saw some people being referred to an agent after the kiosk (maybe if you have a less powerful passport or history of long and repeated visits). On departure there's no kiosk registration, just the usual eGate.
