Miramare Castelletto Triest

The Cestelletto is located in the castle grounds. Today, it mainly houses a shop. During the construction of the castle, it served as a residence for the builders Charlotte and Maximilian (the Emperor of Mexico, who was not particularly successful there).

Miramare Castel Trieste

Inside, there are two different areas. One dates back to the Habsburg era and is decorated in a suitably regal style.

Maramare Castle Trieste

When the region fell to Italy after World War I, the castle was first opened to the public, but then converted into a residence for Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta. The interior design shows a distinctly different style.

This builds trust!

Trieste

Since we were already nearby, we drove into the city centre again. This time without the regatta, which was much more pleasant.

Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie Grado

From Trieste, we travelled to Grado. Grado is a lagoon city and was once very important. We had wanted to go there the day before, but couldn't find a parking space.
In keeping with its importance (it was once a bishopric), there are several significant churches, including Santa Maria delle Grazie, which dates back to the 4th century.

SantEufemia Grado

Sant'Eufemia is the former cathedral of Grado and also dates back to the 4th century.

Inside, it is a very interesting Romanesque basilica and one of the few remaining examples of a church building from the Migration Period.

Baptistery of St. John the Baptist Grado

Right next to Saint Eufemia is the Baptistery of St. John the Baptist. But first, you walk through an open-air area with ancient sculptures, sarcophagi and reliefs.

The inner of the baptistery

I wonder if I'll be welcome?

Basilika San Giovanni Grado

This is also a basilica from the 4th century, but only ruins remain.

San Rocco Grado

San Rocco is the last church of the day. It has now been secularised and serves as an exhibition hall.

Gelagrado - il gelato naturale Grado

Three gelato parlours in Grado have been awarded by Gambero Rosso, and all of them have dui coni. Unfortunately, two were closed, but luckily Gelagrado was open.

There was a good selection, the quality was very good.
