Jennifer Toren (Director, AS Information Security) @ Cyber Security Conference

Jennifer Toren is at a Cybersecurity Conference as part of a panel of Women in InfoSec.

....sadly all I can think to ask is..."When is Alaska getting serious about security and when are we getting 2FA on accounts?"

She confirms it is coming and they are working on it diligently and not to believe all of the various theories out there about the account compromises.

I agree, but more than that happy she is the kind of woman who wants to learn what to improve. Too many executives have their heads in the sand!

Theyre very serious. So serious that if you try to book tickets for your non-western named gf, theyll lock the account twice in as many weeks.

This despite you taking the time to send them your ID via email and talk to three different customer care agents before they finally relent and unlock the account the first time. Even then, having to call in again post-unlock for the ticket they flagged to be reissued.

Theyll lock it a week later for another ticket sending your companion to the same airport you arrive at the day prior (AKL). Their fraud detection isnt apparently smart enough to notice well fly home together two weeks later from CHC, back to HKG.

Wish I was there to try and have a chat with her. Gone are the days when a VP rang my phone to check on my satisfaction with AS.

I'm so tired of hearing it's "coming soon." Give us an actual date or at least a specific month. Maybe consult a dictionary on what "soon" means...

As sends miles redemption confirmation to owners account ‐ this is enough for me. If 2fa is added I hope this is optional choice to be selected by account owner.
I find constant sms or email with codes just to log in to some programs very annoying especially since I often help family members with various ffn needs. Also many do no get sms when traveling overseas restricting access to their accounts when they may need some urgent action.

Not helpful when hackers temporarily change the account owners email to their own to receive the confirmation, then switch it back - which was something many hacked accounts have experienced.

2FA needs to be in place so that hackers cant access accounts in the first place.

But I agree with you - it can be an optional choice so people can choose not to have it.

2fa and allowing customers to add trusted devices has been pretty standard for over a decade. Allows frequent customers to skip 2fa most of the time except when doing things like changing account information, password resets, etc while still being relatively secure. No system is perfect, but AS really needs to roll something out fast.

..
then that's the part that requires 2FA - if account settings change send SMS or email to original contact info to enable that change.

Frontier now has 2fa. Amazing that a true ULCC got 2fa before AS.

The ability to delegate access is actually something that is a serious problem travel companies need to think about. I am managing all my wifes loyalty accounts, and those that have 2FA will occasionally force a reauthentication via SMS or email. Which works for managing the account because I have put my own mobile number and a forwarding email into her account profiles. But occasionally the scheme fails when she is traveling solo and trying to pull up her itinerary or mobile boarding pass in the app on her phone, and it then sends me the code.

And it isnt just families who will have this problem: How do road warrior executives with personal assistants manage their travel?

I get it - but would you rather they miss the date or roll out something broken? I think they learned their lesson from their botched app rollout.

Trouble Using Atmos Summit Wi-Fi Passes?

Unusuable companion awards: Error 1990 disgrace

what they haven’t learned is how to deliver functionality that works.

From new Atmos program details to IT, lots of vital things seem to be "coming soon" or "later in 2026". If it was really a priority they would provide a better timeline.
