I find constant sms or email with codes just to log in to some programs very annoying especially since I often help family members with various ffn needs. Also many do no get sms when traveling overseas restricting access to their accounts when they may need some urgent action.
Not helpful when hackers temporarily change the account owner’s email to their own to receive the confirmation, then switch it back - which was something many hacked accounts have experienced.

2FA needs to be in place so that hackers can’t access accounts in the first place.

But I agree with you - it can be an optional choice so people can choose not to have it.
