So angled flat or not, it is still the best product between India and BKK by a country mile.
While this is correct for now, Air India did have 788s flying at least once daily each from DEL and BOM to BKK. Which, being lie-flat, was a better product to the 772s and 744s that TG was flying at the time. Air India now seems to have deployed the wide bodies to longer routes and now were stuck with the A320s.

Thai also flies an all-economy A320 to BOM on some days with their enhanced economy product and on some booking methods it gets ticketed as business class incorrectly.

As a data point, my BOM-BKK flight a few weeks ago went from being booked on a 787-8 to a 777-200, back to a 787-8 during online check in, and ultimately became a 777-200 when it actually departed BKK for BOM.

I was TGed twice on a same day BKK-SIN-BKK trip in J on 04 Sep!

BKK-SIN: 359 to 789. That was OK.

SIN-BKK: 788 to 772. I didnt mind the change, and might prefer the 772 for a short day flight.

Atleast they didn't show up with some A320 that uses European business of blocking a middle seat😂.

This is what Thai uses on their India routes normally, which is why I was surprised that when I booked the assigned aircraft was a 787.

It's a night flight, so was hoping for some rest, as I have a busy day in BKK upon arrival, followed by another flight to TYO in the afternoon.
Funny enough the TG 777-300 have the same seat yet is in 2-3-2.

TGs 777-300s are 1-2-1 config, so not sure what you mean here?
The 777-200s are 2-2-2 angled flat.

SKT-DK I guess they were referring to the now-retired non-ER 777-300 (the 773 not 77W), that aircraft had the same angle flat J seat as the 772/77E but in a horrible 2-3-2 configuration for regional flights.

Could be - I had happily forgotten about those. They have been retired for a long time though.

They left service in 2020, not really a long time ago, but long enough.

This week I certainly got TGed.

BOM-BKK-LPQ (w Bangkok Air). When I booked, BOM-BKK was lay flat on the coffin class ex VS seats, then it changed to something else then a few days before the flight it changed to a B777-200 2-2-2 angled lie flat for a red-eye flight. Each time they separated us (2 people on same booking) and I had to manually rearrange the seats. Luckily on the last change I got the last 2 seats together that were available. Then on the actual flight my wife's seat broke and she had to sit elsewhere (no compensation offered). Of course they are very dated seats (it's been a long time since I've flown angled lie flat) with no storage.

Then just to improve the lack-of-sleep experience the BKK-LPQ flight changed from jet to an ATR72 (2 hours worth).

First world problems I know, but a massive difference to SQ.

Always unfortunate when this happens for a night flight, although for a day flight I still find the old 772 is very spacious. And kind of ‘retro’

Why did you select TG over SQ? Presumably schedule? Or price & schedule? Just curious.

Agreed - the 777 would have been fine for a day time flight - just not a red eye.

I chose TG over SQ because at the time of booking it was lie flat and a jet BOM-BKK-LPQ. From memory with SQ or VN they would have taken my to VTE rather than LPQ and SQ would have involved Scoot. So it was better for my schedule.

Why would you expect compensation if she got a perfectly functioning seat elsewhere? I had a malfunctioning seat the other day and the crew moved us somewhere else that worked - did I expect anything? No. Had there been no alternative, obviously that is a different discussion

Guess booking BKK-SIN/HKG is now even harder, already need to avoid the A320s, and now need to avoid getting TGed.

My flight last night SOn-BKK on TG408 was TGed from a 788 to 77W, so its not all bad! Id selected 12A in case there was a change to 359 or 77W, but happy anywhere for this 2 hour flight.
