Post stay update.
Yes, was able to check in at the Ali'i tower. Was a little before normal check in time. Nobody in line. Booked with points a resort view king room. Got upgraded to an ocean view king. If wasn't going to watch the fireworks on the beach with a colleague and his wife, the view from the rooms balcony would have been perfect for me and my wife. Also as a Lifetime Diamond Kama'aina (live in Hawaii) for a one night stay they gave me a little more than 50% off the self parking rate. Normally $79 a day, they charged $34.50. And no resort fee as using points. Was a nice relaxing way to spend the first night of my retirement with no stress, or chance of DUI driving home. Able to walk to Dim Sum restaurant and have a beer with dinner then walk back for the Hilton Friday night fireworks and a couple more beers on the beach, technically not allowed but people do it anyways. Perfect weather too as we got poured on driving into Waikiki from our place on the west side but cleared up before heading to dinner. Slept late Saturday morning and walked to Happy's in front of Hale Koa for a MUCH cheaper breakfast then relaxing walk on the beach. They gave us a 1:00 PM check out as a Diamond but we ended up leaving about 10 to head home.

Used FNC and got a room upgrade
Used a FNC for one night in a standard resort view, accessible room which was the only one available on short notice.
Checked in person and advised them we don't need an accessable room. Received an upgrade to a rennovated Rainbow tower room, 19th floor ocean view. Very nice room with a good view of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach. Also used the $36 credit at the Tapa Bar.
Very nice visit overall.

Checked in today. As a Diamond, I booked two doubles, resort view. First upgrade on the app got me into a Tapa tower ocean view, 16th floor, I didn't check in, next time that I looked, I was down-upgraded to a Tapa tower partial ocean view, 33rd floor. I didn't take that either and held out to do an in-person check-in. I had a very nice fdc who, after about 10 minutes, ended up giving me an ocean view in the Rainbow tower, 29th floor. I am happy with that. It is a seven night stay, so that may have limited my upgrades.
I am trying it out as I couldn't get into the Hyatt. So far, I like it better than the Marriott, but not as good as the Hyatt. The layout reminds me of a Disney resort. A lot of walking, but for the most part enjoyable. The room is nice, I received one of the recently refurbished ones. No real complaints about the room. My $18 daily f and b credit isn't going to far, but that seems par for the course these days at most properties. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I’m a Hilton Honors Gold staying at Hilton Hawaiian Village starting on November 11, 2025.
Celebrating my 10th anniversary with my wife, and she really wants to get a room where she will have a good view for the fireworks.
My understanding is that would be a room in Rainbow or Ali'i Tower (oceanfront/partial ocean).
Booked 1 night on points regular King Resort view room, and then 5 more nights on a cash rate on Hilton.com for a King Resort room.
Has anyone had any Recent Gold upgrade experiences for fireworks views?
Can you recommend Specific towers/floors to request?
What is the best way to ask for comp upgrade (app, email, check-in)?
Anyone know of the paid upgrade costs for oceanfront lately? Any negotiation tips?
Other tips for securing a fireworks view without breaking the bank?
Thanks in advance.

Rainbow Tower Lagoon view higher floor
Tapas tower high floor ocean view (cheaper)
You may get an email with a NOR1 upgrade offer. You can bid on it. It is hit or miss (mostly miss in my experience).
The email from the hotel clearly says dont even hope, if you want a nice room book a nice room or bid on an upgrade and see what happens.
Only other option is beg during check in. The days of emailing the manager (unless you have some very specific angle besides anniversary etc) are pretty much gone. Especially for just a Gold.
All that said, I am okay with their scheme and happily recommend the property. Being on the beach for the fireworks is also neat.

My recent stay was solid, if ultimately unspectacular, providing reliable service but marred by a few notable inconveniences.
Disturbance and Amenity Gaps (Negative) The most significant drawback was the ongoing construction noise originating from the Rainbow Tower. The drilling was persistent and loud enough to be clearly heard even from the resort's beach area.
Additionally, while a complimentary 1 PM late checkout was offered for Gold status, further extensions were subject to a $50 per hour charge (up to 6 PM). Crucially, the resort lacks any courtesy shower or changing facilities for guests who have checked out, making it difficult to enjoy afternoon pool or beach time before a late flight.
Elite Recognition & Room Upgrades Elite status recognition was excellent. Greeted and thanked for being a HiIlton Gold member (almost robotically) every time I had an interaction with a employee at the front desk.
Both of our standard room reservations were proactively upgraded to the Tapa Tower Ocean View about 2 weeks before check-in date.
We received high-floor rooms (28th and 29th) with ocean views. However, potential guests should note a slight view inconsistency: while the 28th-floor room offered a truly full ocean view, the room on the 29th floor (though classified as "Full Ocean View" as confirmed in the app) was further away from the beach and would be better categorized as a partial ocean view in my opinion.
Appears any upgrades to suites (classified as specialty rooms) is at a fixed upcharge, which for my stay ranged from $100 to $150 for the corner rooms/suites per night for the rooms we were considering upgrading to.
Dining Recommendations (Local Tips) I highly recommend seeking dining options off-site, as they offered far superior value and quality compared to the on-site restaurants. Wew especially enjoyed breakfast at Aloha Kitchen and Sunny's Local Grind (both just across the street) and found excellent take-out bentos and spam musubi at the small Japanese spot, Komedokoro M's (also across the street).

Ok first impressions of Alii Tower:
- There is nightly live music from the bar in the middle of HHV property. If you are in a resort facing view, you will hear this noise until 9:30pm. For a family friendly resort with tons of small children who go to bed before 9pm, it's puzzling.
- Alii tower check in desk closes around 6pm. The whole private check in experience is worthless if you arrive at night because you have to go to the main lobby to check in.
- Pool towels can run out. This just means you have to wait 20 minutes for a clean batch. If you see the pool stand with towels, get them instead of waiting until later.
- Charging to your room is a manual process that is not seamless or automated. It requires taking your ID and room number to verify your information and some restaurants on site make a big deal about it. This will add a couple of minutes to your payment process. Exception: the Tropics grill on the beach was fine with room charging without the lookup. YMMV.
- Starbucks on site is not open all day. They are not a normal Starbucks location, so no app orders or gift cards usage. Some people bring their own coffeemaker or instant coffee packets. Alii tower rooms have Keurig machines and hot water electric kettles.
- Eating on site all the time can get expensive, especially if you have kids. The mini fridge in the Alii room is incredibly helpful. Target grocery is a 15-20 min walk. If you are going to do some self catering, recommend bringing your own metal utensils in your checked bag. Also, bring reusable bags for shopping.
- Alii King room has a sofa bed. Alii double rooms don't have a sofa bed. Rollaways cost 125/night.
- Friday fireworks can be viewed from the 2nd floor pool. Best place to stand is along the balcony railing facing the beach. The beach will be insanely packed with people.
- Lapperts has a great breakfast pastry lineup with local Hawaiian flavors like mango bread and coconut muffins. They also brew Kona coffee.
