You may get an email with a NOR1 upgrade offer. You can bid on it. It is hit or miss (mostly miss in my experience).

The email from the hotel clearly says don’t even hope, if you want a nice room book a nice room or bid on an upgrade and see what happens.

Only other option is beg during check in. The days of emailing the manager (unless you have some very specific angle besides anniversary etc) are pretty much gone. Especially for just a Gold.

All that said, I am okay with their scheme and happily recommend the property. Being on the beach for the fireworks is also neat.
