Today, I changed both of the following, online, and they priced correctly and everything worked:
1. YYZ-ORD-MUC-NCE (with PR) to YYZ-EWR-NCE
2. SEA-YVR (with PR) to EWR-NCE
I don't know if there have been any very recent changes to the change system, but I think this is the first time I've been able to self-serve change a booking with a PR.
If even 50% (instead of 0%) of my bookings can now be changed online, that's a huge win for both me and everyone who actually needs to call in and wait on hold.

Such a frigging useless feature. "Itineraries which include train travel cannot be booked with Aeroplan points. To book this particular itinerary, please select the cash payment option." Except my booking doesn't have any train travel, nor am I trying to add any segments that involve train stations or train travel. The only thing that doesn't generate that error is searching the exact same origin/destination on different dates.

Of course, after going through all that, and having it price correctly and take my payment information, it failed to ticket, so I had to phone in anyway. It should have been fairly quick, but the first agent I spoke to tried to do it as a change, and charge me 12K more points, because the price was now higher. Of course, when I pointed out the change had already been made and it just needed to be ticketed, ticketing was able to issue it in maybe a minute or so. Thankfully this wasn't one of those times there was a 45-minute wait for ticketing, and it was done fairly quickly, but definitely wasted several minutes with her trying to do the wrong thing instead of just pushing it to ticketing right away.
Unfortunately, tonight I can't even get the damned thing to do a search for options on changing the date on a simple single-bound, one-way PNR. Just the frigging spinning plane. Can someone with a tech background explain to me how they have built this thing so poorly that it pretty much never works? I'm genuinely baffled at how the absolute simplest of tasks usually eludes this online tool.
I'm also incredibly annoyed that I'm wasting even more time screwing around trying to get it to work than if I just phoned in.

I ended up calling in, got quoted an additional 154,000 points for the change I wanted. So just used the SE free to cancel benefit and did a new booking for what I wanted for an additional 2400 points. Have to follow up in a few weeks to check I actually get the taxes refunded, but for SE, seems like its not worth trying to actually change if you can just cancel and rebook

I did eventually find a workaround for this. Select the bound(s) you want to change, then search for same O/D with a different date. Or I suppose same date will work. Once it pulls up search results, you can use the modify search function at the top of the page to change O/D and search for whatever you're actually trying to do.
No, wait. If you change the return so that it looks like a round trip, it should give you results, then you can go through the modify function as previously described. But you can't change the outbound to try to make it look like a round trip. Jesus.

Had to dig back for this thread, but today I wasn't able to call in so I thought I'd try clicking through to the change button and see if it worked on an Aeroplan booking with a PR applied. Well, blew me away but it just worked. No fuss at all, recalculated the PR discount and let me pick new flights summarizing the changes. Anyway, small thing but made my life a little easier.
As an aside, apparently in July the AE call centre is shifting to 5am - 3am PST hours. Much better coverage than before.

Not sure if its connected or just coincidence but this is the first time I have tried since the mandatory(!) 2FA has been in-place. I turned this off a long time ago, and maybe that has been the issue?
Anyway, good to see, even though I didn't make the change

The online change function & rebooking function is horrible. Had a severe schedule change on an award ticket, went to the link they sent me and the system told me there are no options within a week
. Yeah, YOW-BOS is tough … so I called and the agent seemed very willing to fix this. Took an astonishing 40 (!) minutes - no kidding. System issues, can I put you on hold? I need to call someone. Sorry, now we need to start over again. It was comical

I tried to change a booking on Friday. The "change" button was greyed out, so I had to call in. Do you need to cancel upgrade requests first, or something, to get it to work?
