I am flying Qatar for the first time in a long time. I am a AA Platinum and am wondering if I can have access to Qatar lounge due to my status. Also, do AA Platinum have access to better seating or more than 2 bags to check in on Qatar on an international flight?
Thanks in advance for answering the above questions. I appreciate it.

My mom took a flight on JL a few months ago without any FF# on her ticket. Would it be possible to create a new AA account for her and then retroactively credit to that? Or is it no good if the account is created after the flight was taken?

Hello, complete newbie here. My wife and I are going on a trip March 18, booked with AA. I have 71k miles. The flights are PHL -> DFW -> HND, and returning HND -> LAX -> PHL. The tickets were a bit under $1600 each. I'm wondering if I'd be able to actually use my miles somehow? I was looking on the aa website and it would take a little over 91k miles to cover one person. I would have to spend about $650 to buy the 20k miles needed to cover that.
My hypothetical plan is:
1. refund my existing tickets (mine, not my wife's) for a travel credit. (I believe I got the kind that you can do that)
2. use my travel credit to buy the 20k miles (~$650)
3. purchase the tickets for myself with those ~91k miles
4. choose the same seats as my previous ticket had, next to my wife
My questions are:
- does that plan seem reasonable?
- can I use travel credits to buy miles? (step 2)
- could I reasonably guarantee that I could get the same seat next to my wife? she is claustrophobic and would refuse to go if we don't sit together

" Keep in mind, travel credits can only be used to book flights, and cant be used to pay for extras like seats or bags."

I bought a ticket through the Chase Travel Portal for travel from AUS to FUK (through DFW/HND on outbound, HND/ORD on inbound) which ticketed on JL 131 stock in O class, with all flights having a JL code. When I pull up my reservation on the AA site to select my seats for the AA domestic legs, I get warnings that it's a Basic Economy ticket, and that the respective restrictions apply. Since I didn't ticket it through AA stock, does the warning mean anything? I was able to select any seat for free with PPro and see a luggage allowance of one bag (which I assume will be three with standard PPro benefits), but I don't see that I'm on the upgrade list for the AUS-DFW and ORD-AUS legs. Do I need to contact AA CS to add myself to the upgrade list?

Is American's check in cutoff mandatory? I'm asking in the sense that if im not checking bags on an INTL flight, and show up lets say 50 minutes before departure, would they still be able to process me?

Definitely do not show up 50 mins before an international flight without checking in and expect things to go smoothly. If you don't have bags then just try to check-in online.

Not exactly a newbie, but have not been on AA in a long time and not a member of AAdvantage. But now I have an upcoming ORD-MAD flight on AA, booked through IB as a codeshare, with AS FF number. No checked luggage.
Although the AA app can be used with the AA PNR and it let me enter my passport number, I am guessing that this is not enough to get a bp on the app. What is the procedure to get a bp? Can I scan my passport at a machine, and if so are there specific international-checkin machines at ORD?
On the way back I will be transferring from IB/Air Nostrum to AA and will presumably be given a bp that I would have to trade in for an AA bp at the gate at MAD. Or will the app give me a bp that works to board? Note again, not an AAdvantage member; AS only.
Many thanks!

The minimun check-in time for international flights is 60 mins, the check-in times are set in the system so yes they're mandatory, although IIRC airport agents may have a 2 or 3 min grace period.

I'm usually used to showing up to the airport 40-50 minutes before departure with mobile boarding pass in hand

There are no specific international check in machines at ORD, they're all the new ones, so use whichever is available should you need to go that route.
IB can print boarding passes that work with AA, the only exception is they usually don't work for getting into the lounge.

My question had nothing to do with seat selection. However, for the benefit of any others who might read this, the information above is not correct in my experience----IB can only assign IB seats, AA can only assign AA seats. I did get the AA PNR from IB and seats were assigned long ago.
