Not sure if the following were ever mentioned here? He never could not taking advantage of AC's IT cluelessness. Apparently now/then at Cathay.

Part of my responsibility includes public message boards related to the products I manage, where you can get both per to peer and also company support. If anyone from our team ever said something like that to a customer that would be the last time they ever posted.

Glad to have you back.
Took almost a 10 year break myself after getting laid off from previous roadwarrior job and losing my status, but now have it back, and am back here.
I think the staying power is that this place has managed to maintain the more expert level folks, and is a little less obvious to the FOTSG folks, compared to the various relevant subreddits.

But I still don't understand your virtual machine concept for the new lab.
You may be surprised to find that we follow each other on Twitter, and have virtually identical views on politics.
The issue is "frequent flyers" and "FlyerTalkers" are two very different (but somewhat overlapping) sets of people.
And while I don't want to call anyone "dumb", there are a lot of people in both sets who truly don't understand why allowing you to earn SE for $3k and upgrade every $400 YYZ-TYO-YYZ fare to J that they buy (in sufficient quantity to requalify) is bad for business, and why "bad for business" is not viable for a frequent flyer program.
It's relatively easy to have a discussion with someone senior at AC if you are a "business-smart" frequent flyer.
But the type of person who will show up to a livery event is almost guaranteed to be much closer to the "$3000 SE FTer" than anyone they'd actually care to hear from. And I say that as someone who spent less than 24h in YYZ on a SFO-YYZ-SFO turn to attend one of those.
The last conversation I had with an AC exec started along the lines of "90% of the tickets I buy are paid J, and I just don't feel like I get anything out of my status". That gets their attention much more than "30 years ago, I could book a RTW in F for 100k Aeroplan points".

What I miss is the value AC puts on input from their frequent flyers - FTs. This event was held 19 years ago. Interesting read on what was discussed, some of which has been introduced and in some cases since withdrawn (TPE flights). Not surprising over 19 years however.
Since then there have been two other similar but less focused events. I believe the last was the introduction of the Dreamliner in YYZ and YVR - but also many years ago.
hopefully these types of events can return again.

Time flies. Hard to believe that was 19 years ago. I remember it fondly. AC really went all out to make it a special day, from them personally serving us business class meals for lunch on the trays, to flying the simulator to walking through the stripped interior of the (Delta?) plane undergoing major maintenance. The discussions were interesting and I remember how interested the AC brass were in our opinions. A couple years later, Ben Smith helped me out in a difficult situation. I wish they would do something similar again, but times have changed.
Fun times!
