I think the staying power is that this place has managed to maintain the more expert level folks, and is a little less obvious to the FOTSG folks, compared to the various relevant subreddits.
WAIT!!!! I KNOW YOU!!!!

But I still don't understand your virtual machine concept for the new lab.

Well at least one of us works.

It's relatively easy to have a discussion with someone senior at AC if you are a "business-smart" frequent flyer.

But the type of person who will show up to a livery event is almost guaranteed to be much closer to the "$3000 SE FTer" than anyone they'd actually care to hear from. And I say that as someone who spent less than 24h in YYZ on a SFO-YYZ-SFO turn to attend one of those.

The last conversation I had with an AC exec started along the lines of "90% of the tickets I buy are paid J, and I just don't feel like I get anything out of my status". That gets their attention much more than "30 years ago, I could book a RTW in F for 100k Aeroplan points".
I'm still not convinced that AC execs are any "business-smarter" than your average frequent flyer. For years they motivated me to instead spend $1000-$1600 on YVR-SYD-YVR, when I was fully prepared to pay $4000-$5000.
