I remember BA storing several 767s in Birmingham after September 11th.

Updates:
  • G-ZBLB is on its way from ORD and goes back into passenger service tomorrow morning
  • G-ZBLG is also back in service
  • G-GATL comes back from MAD tonight (so I've moved it to LGW in the Wiki)
  • G-GATH is still in BHX until this evening
  • G-EUXE is in ALC and will go to BHX tonight when it gets back to switch with G-GATH
  • G-STBA re-enters service to SIN/SYD tonight
  • G-YMME moved to LHR for maintenance
  • G-YMMH moved to LGW for cover
  • G-VIIU is still in St Lucia and should return tonight or tomorrow

Edit - G-GATH and G-EUXE no longer have flight plans for tonight filed, so their BHX switch seems to be on hold.

Random musings

Looking at G-MEDF still parked in Madrid after G-EUPL's demise, I wondered how the rest of the A321 ex-BM fleet looked in comparison to it:

G-MEDJ - left BA in Jan'23 for P2F conversion but has been stored at HAM since (Approx. 57K hrs when it left the fleet)
G-MEDG - left BA in May'23 for Fly2Sky (retaining its passenger format) and has recently been unveiled as Beond Airlines (Maldives Premium Carrier) 2nd aircraft (Approx. 65K hrs when it left BA)
G-MEDU - left BA in Jun'23 for P2F conversion, now active with RJ as JY-RAZ in freighter format (Approx. 37K hrs when it left BA)
G-MEDM - left BA in Sept'23 for P2F conversion, now active with Qantas Freight as VH-XF5 (Approx. 45K hrs when it left BA)
G-MEDN - left BA in Dec'23 for P2F conversion, now active with Qantas Freight as VH-XF6 (Approx. 38K hrs when it left BA)
G-MEDL - left BA in Aug'24, now registered with Avion Express as LY-NVH, which appears to contradict the P2F conversion rumours back in Sept (Approx. 47K hrs when it left BA)
G-MEDF - Still in storage at MAD, 65K hrs on the airframe suggests the reason why it is struggling to move on vs. the other frames. It appears to be leased from AerCap and will approach 23yrs in Feb'25, so we may see it end up scrapped during 2025 after 4yrs+ in storage.

Just a little timeline record of the ex-BM A321 fleet for your reading.

Re. MEDL, as you allude to; this frame was repainted all white prior to leaving the fleet, which is unusual for a P2F conversion. Being at Avion seems to confirm it remains in passenger configuration.

Mini Update:
  • G-EUXE will attempt to swap with G-GATH at BHX this evening
  • G-XLEC suffered an engine loss on take-off this morning for MIA (BA207) and is currently circling in the channel burning fuel before it can return to LHR (H/T to this thread The trouble with BA’s A380s lately - FlyerTalk Forums)
  • No return flight planned for G-VIIU yet from St Lucia, so G-YMMH continues to provide cover for it and G-YMME (LHR maintenance)

Just seen that an announcement that the LHR-DFW route has been cancelled from summer 25, could this be because of the a380 struggles?

The A380 service on the DFW route wasnt due to return next summer. It had switched between B777 and A350 service ahead of todays announcement. I am guessing between B787 CS refits (plus the rumoured A380 CS refit start) and B777 maintenance, BA Ops / Tech have learned from this summers issues and have decided to leave some slack in the system so they arent in the same situation next winter with the B777 fleet needing extra TLC after carrying the burden over the summer.

And now there are five daily AA 777s scheduled LHR-DFW each day next summer ...... ! BA obviously seeking some help from its US cousins .

Thank you. I was puzzled why G-MEDF hung around as it was one of the oldest besides G-MEDE which bmi shipped off a Turkish operator back in 2010.

Strictly speaking, MEDF, MEDG, MEDH, MEDJ, MEDK, MEDL and MEDM were essentially BA aircraft as they were delivered to BMED and specified to BA standard; most had the late 90s/early 2000s purple/blue WT seat scheme and various iterations of BA IFE - even BA boarding music. MEDN was the first one delivered to a bmi specification, though it had been ordered by BMED.

BA have also announced that they are cutting the LHR-MIA route down to one daily rotation, haven't they? They seem to be blaming Rolls Royce and supply problems with the Trent 1000 engines. and parts. Again, AA will be taking up the slack.

the standard gaps between trips to MNL is around 18 months

presumably this is either
a) light maintenance that LHR doesn't have the capacity for ... or
b) heavy maintenance because they've found something nasty

the memory of XLEJ's almost 3 month extended summer stay in MNL hangs over the rest of the A380 fleet !

Does anyone know why VIIW (and maybe others) lack the coroguard paint on the wings?

Did this start with the brilliant white paint and crest being applied?
