Okay, so I log into the AY Visa app and there is this red diagonal line over my card and the text "suljetty pysyvsti", ie permanently closed. What the...?
Of course it is Saturday and their phone numberos only work on weekdays, and who knows how long I will have to wait on the phone to talk to them...
Has anyone else had the same? What could be the reason?

What a funny typo, and I'm not even in a Spanish speaking country at the moment.
Thanks! I am in Armenia and tried to purchase Avios yesterday. Maybe that's the reason. I haven't used the physical card at all here. Well, AmEx came to rescue.

At least my card data was really stolen about a month ago (it had probably leaked from some online purchase). Someone tried to use my card for authorization on some web shop. Seemed that Aktia was on top of the problem and I got a text message notification already of the first try. After calling them, my card was closed permanently and I received a new card in about one week. After that, I've seen on the app several declined tries to do online purchases with the closed card.

Thanks. Yeah, I tried three times to make that Avios purchase with my Visa and it never even got to the stage where I can verify it via the App. So most likely they thought it was shady.
(Text messages don't reach me at the moment. I don't know why. My phone is using an Armenian network but for some reason, text messages don't go through. Well, maybe I get them when I reach Riga.)
I'll call them when I get home.

Okay, so my plane landed in Riga early this morning and I got the SMS. I called them and they agreed to open the card, and now the app shows the card as working normally.
Funny thing: If you want to buy Finnair Avios with a Finnair Visa, this transaction is so suspicious that the card issuer flags it and closes your card.
No real harm done, did not need the card for anything else during this time and I always travel with enough cash so I don't need to rely on cards. Lost 2100 points because I had to do the Avios purchase with my Amex.

Credit card branding only goes skin deep...
But it is funny some card issuers seems to have extra harsh controls of their branded partners (eg SEB requiring BankID check every time you book (not pay!) a strawberry hotels using a stored strawberry card issued by SEB.
Amex take on trusting terminals ( letting users list terminals they trust ) is good in comparison to visa mc
