Actually it is not so funny as miles are on a way similar to many other closed loop payment methods and running AML controls is more difficult. So, miles, especially when used to move between not strongly authenticated owners in varied systems could and might be used for money laundring. So no wonder they would want to take special look on the initial source, as after that miles as currency looses all trackers.
