For access to the Qantas First Lounge at TBIT just one of the following needs to be true:
- Non US (not AAdvantage and not Mileage Plan) oneworld Emerald departing on a oneworld Marketed and operated flight.
- AAdvantage or Mileage Plan Emerald departing on a oneworld Marketed and Operated flight NOT solely on a "North American* Itinerary".
- First Class passengers departing on a oneworld Marketed and Operated flight not solely on a "North American* Itinerary".
- Passengers in First Class on a flight longer than five hours connecting to/from an international or domestic short haul (five hours or less) oneworld Marketed and Operated flight and not solely on a "North American* Itinerary".
- First and Business Class passengers^ travelling on a non stop transcontinental American Airlines Marketed and Operated flight on a designated route (i.e. between Los Angeles & New York or San Francisco & New York).
Connecting the same day or before 6am the following day. Such Lounge access is based on the class of services of the long haul flight (First or Business) regardless of the class of travel on the short haul flight.
^ Regarding AA EXP in any cabin. This is a "Class of Service" based access, so status should not be relevant. Rules indicate NO ACCESS unless in First or Business on a designated non stop transcontinental route, but there had been some contradictory experiences about this. Early on EXP based access had sometimes been granted; not so much these days. Presumably this related to confusion about the rules on behalf of some agents.

Lounge access rules
All non-AA and Non-AS Oneworld Emerald members have access to this lounge on any oneworld itinerary regardless of cabin or final destination.
AA EXP have access when traveling to all destinations outside North America, Canada, Mexico (except Mexico City), the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean. Includes if pax is flying LAX-DFW-LHR because you are flying internationally that day.
No Class of Service access for domestic F without non AA and non AS Emerald status unless on designated (generally 3-class) flights to JFK and MIA.
Passengers on any 3-cabin AA flight to JFK, BOS or MIA in First Class.
Emirates pax do not have access except for Qantas Platinum One. EDIT: Appears to be that Qantas removed that access criteria from their lounge access page so I wouldn't count on this working.
No access if connecting to a non-Oneworld airline or partner.
Separate tickets within oneworld do not matter other than it has to be same day . E.g. QF F to AA Y on the same day.
To walk from T4 to TBIT will take approximately 10 minutes one way so plan accordingly if visiting this lounge.

Just wondering if I would have any potential issues doing the following;
I am OWE as an AA PlatPro. I have an upcoming international itinerary on Iberia and I will be traveling with both my parents in economy. Since lounges only allow one guest, I'm planning on checking in the One World LAX Business Lounge with my dad, and dropping him off there. Then me and my mom will go to Qantas First lounge.

So I booked an award ticket directly with Qatar, but I added my AS FFN that has Emerald status.
Im not sure if this is going to work getting in, since technically I used my QR FFP avios to book
this ticket.
Do you think QF will recognize my Emerald status for this type of ticket?

Yes, based on being AA Emerald and connecting from a same-day qualifying international flight. Just show them your inbound boarding pass and you should be good.

AA Business class passenger (who is not Emerald) would only be able to access the QF J lounge (not the F). You would need to be flying AA F (which AA doesn't have on the 789).

I believe you only get AC access as MEX isnt included for qualifying international. If your status was with BA or other airlines then North America would count for status but I think MEX in J is your ticket to access a lounge here and just AC.

One World Emerald gets access to both the Qantas J and F lounge regardless of class flown on long haul international - whether on QF or AA flight. Even economy can access both. You also get access to AA Flagship.
AA Business class passenger (who is not Emerald) would only be able to access the QF J lounge (not the F). You would need to be flying AA F (which AA doesn't have on the 789).

thanks for your replies. Makes sense that I'd get AC lounge access per the rules on the AA site. It's just that the following statement in the OW site access page made me curious since OW considers MEX international.
American Airlines AAdvantage members, regardless of their tier status or class of travel, are not eligible for access to oneworld member airline lounge when travelling solely on North American flights between the U.S., Canada, Mexico (except Mexico City), the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean.

Customers traveling in First or Business class, who do not hold oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status, are not eligible for OW lounge access when travelling on American Airlines domestic flights solely within U.S., between U.S. and Caribbean, between U.S. and Mexico (except Mexico City), or Canada, other than the exception listed below:
- Customers traveling in First or Business class on select non-stop domestic U.S. transcontinental flights (JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO, and vice-versa) are eligible for lounge access.

True about not getting in on the Transcon but you would have access b/c in this situation the 6am rule should apply since you are arriving on the short haul the same day (as opposed to a red eye when the 6am rule is null since it lands the next day anyways). So your long haul leaves at 115am so since thats before 6am you should have no issue. Also, its not like you have some crazy long layover where they can try to argue that. At most you have what 9 hours..

I'm in a similar situation. I should have asked earlier, but I'm about to fly into LAX with UA on one ticket and AA to HND on another. I'll essentially have about 9+ hours at LAX. AA26 is apparently departing a bit later on my date. It was originally scheduled to leave 12:45 AM the day after I arrive at LAX, but it's now pushed back to 1:05 AM. I'm just a little worried I'll encounter someone at the front desk and I'll be denied entry since I'm arriving at LAX so early and that I'm technically not leaving until the next day. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I had a mini argument with the Australian rep trying to enter. He was trying to steer me to the AA FL even though I'm BAEC Gold/OWE!
And you can go as early as you want. I went for breakfast a few months ago w a 10:45pm flight.
