Would love to know your feedback on Beach Enclave in T&C...been looking at that for clients for some time but just am not sure. Looks fab, though!

Well , almost ended up at Marriott but going to check out Trisara after many years of absence to catch up with Anthony L too . He assures us that we will still know many of the staff .
We shall see how service is after rather " iffy " reviews in this forum .

Crossed mind to recce Iniala but at this time cannot take risk with the design . The intention is to relax , so will possibly stay when I'm going kayaking , etc .
Ankle still on the mend ( was to be in TUH & MOHK now but aborted too )

Amanpuri is rather busy over CNY so have opted to possibly have a meal there instead . Our usual pool pavilions , etc are not available plus we do not enjoy Puri when the beach is super busy .
FYI , it is over holidays " with most movements in the world " , read between the lines .
Plus .. Why hide away in a Puri villa at this time when the sea is at her best ?

Pulo also faces same issue ..

Perhaps should be cruising Galapagos instead . Thanks SanDiego1K .

Trying to sort out when in March for N'oi .

April / May : Puri , Nemu , Aman Tokyo ?? MOTYO ?

May / June :
Vancouver Still deciding hotels

Where else in Alaska ? .. besides cruising - M . S . Regatta

Bellevue / Medina / Mercer Island / Seattle : Family , friends .. PanPacific , Olympic and / or ??

Lummi Island : Willows Inn to eat & stay

June / July : Kila , Nusa

Am not at Amans monthly

Wales - any luxury ??

Manchester - luxury ??

London : FS Trinity Square ? ( depends on TRs ) , Halkin .. [ QUOTE]

I have decided to stay here instead of Gidleigh. Thanks for the heads up! I will be sure to do a write-up on it. You also managed to stick the idea of going to The Brando in my mind, but after researching it and finding out best time is May > October, it won't be until next year that it happens, if it does happen.

I was intrigued enough to look it up after learning that Obama spent a month there this spring to work on his book. Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi spent a week there while Obama was there. I saw there are 35 villas but really have no sense of the island.

The Brando looks the way Bora Bora looked when we first went there in 1975. At that time we had a reservation for Tetiaroa. I think we were scheduled for 5 days at Hotel Bora Bora and 3 days in Tetiaroa. We were so enamored of our over water bungalow at Hotel BB, that we cancelled our Tetiaroa plans. Of interest, is when we checked in for our UTA flight to Tahiti, Marlon Brando was in the same line, also connecting in Papeete. If the Brando has even the suggestion of Bora Bora in the '70's, it should be quite wonderful.

obama also did necker/moskito, right after inauguration and before a necker celebration week, probably doing a lot of private islands, although obviously branson was a factor re necker

perhaps obama bought most of brando out, interesting re ellen

will be interesting to see if brando gets access to rest of atoll, and residences

Hotel Bora Bora might have chance if aman has stake and could do residences

I think you might be confusing Tetiaroa with Rangiroa . . . ??? Apologies if I'm wrong. But in 1975 Marlon Brando was the sole owner of Tetiaroa and it wasn't functioning as a hotel at all. Rangiroa had the Kia Ora hotel, still in operation with several changes of ownership since the 1970s.

Both Tetiaroa and Rangiroa are enormous circular or ovate atolls, flat islands, sometimes 20-30 miles across, that are the remains of the rim of a long-sunken volcano. Tetiaroa is close to Tahiti while Rangiroa is further away, part of the Tuamotu group.

Bora Bora is a high island, with jagged parts of the volcano still standing, surrounded by motu, little islands, enclosing the lagoon. In 1975 there was the Hotel Bora Bora and little else. I think maybe Dino De Laurentiis had built La Marara. And there might have been the Club Med. Nothing out on the motus. The French airline called UTA (Union de Transports Aeriens) seemed amazingly exotic and linked France with its overseas territories. It was possible to board in Paris and travel to Tahiti, Wallis & Futuna, New Caledonia and across to Reunion and back to Paris.

Those were the days!

And MacMyDay, so pleased to learn you are going to try out Lympstone Manor. I expect to get down there myself before the big summer season kicks in. And as far as French Polynesia is concerned, I've been there at various times of year and only once ran into seriously bad weather - an endless depression hanging over Rangiroa in September. I've been in the wet season and while it's crushingly humid you get fabulous skies for your camera!

Well I never! Brilliant research as usual, Kage. I somehow suspect this arrangement didn't last long and that the hotel experience was a little . . . rustic.

Thanks, Kage. We definitely had a reservation for Tetiaroa in 1975 and we knew it was going to be rather rustic. In 1975, even Hotel Bora Bora was considered rustic. There were no telephones and reservations were made using a Telex and the hotel used radios to communicate to the outside. The road around the island was only partially paved from Viatape to Hotel Bora Bora, mostly unpaved after the hotel. The motus were used for picnics and the only other accommodations on the island was the Club Med, considered a satellite as it was tiny, the Yacht Club and the very spartan Matira cottages near the Hotel Bora Bora on a beautiful beach. Tahaa was a motu we could see from our overwater bungalow. Would never have suspected that it would one day have hotels. The "town" had one general store, a small movie theatre and post office. The big event of the week was the arrival of the boat delivering goods from Papeete, as well as a few passengers. There were no places to dine outside of the hotel. We were on a MAP. Bloody Mary's arrived a couple of years later. We fell in love with Bora Bora and that is why we cancelled our reservation at Tetiaroa.

When we went to Bora Bora there were 40,000 overwater bungalows. Fortunately the accommodations at the St. Regis were nice, the food was good and we enjoyed our time even if the whole thing was kitschy.
