Thanks, Kage. We definitely had a reservation for Tetiaroa in 1975 and we knew it was going to be rather rustic. In 1975, even Hotel Bora Bora was considered rustic. There were no telephones and reservations were made using a Telex and the hotel used radios to communicate to the outside. The road around the island was only partially paved from Viatape to Hotel Bora Bora, mostly unpaved after the hotel. The motus were used for picnics and the only other accommodations on the island was the Club Med, considered a satellite as it was tiny, the Yacht Club and the very spartan Matira cottages near the Hotel Bora Bora on a beautiful beach. Tahaa was a motu we could see from our overwater bungalow. Would never have suspected that it would one day have hotels. The "town" had one general store, a small movie theatre and post office. The big event of the week was the arrival of the boat delivering goods from Papeete, as well as a few passengers. There were no places to dine outside of the hotel. We were on a MAP. Bloody Mary's arrived a couple of years later. We fell in love with Bora Bora and that is why we cancelled our reservation at Tetiaroa.
