First, the Range Regional Airport, which used to be called the Chisholm/Hibbing Airport (because it happens to sit in Chisholm) serves both cities.

As others have noted, they are more than in the "same region" - they are nearly the same town, separated by a few minutes driving.

Boy, I hope so. That would be a pretty hard wage to live with in large metro area. I think MPR got the wage information from the public loan documents. So it's HIBRES only.

Still plenty of IT and Engineering going on in MSP. I believe a good chunk of the Kiosk IT is still in MN. The fleet size is so big a bunch of engineering work is still done up here too.

Woah, don't call them same town. Chisholm has it's own school district and rivalry with Hibbing.

I too spent my time living in "The Cities" (god they are beautiful but COOOOOOOOOLD!!!!) and heck forget about the airfares...just remember the tax rates up there - and honestly I agree with you it would be a perfect world if this type of incentive didn't occur but I don't ever see that happening....local taxing authorities like to show they've brought home the bacon to the voters

I've always gotten excellent service from SLC based agents, which is why I wasn't surprised to learn the 360 team is based there.

As a Minnesota resident, and I have not yet looked at all the details, my initial reaction was "Why in the world should we give anything to Delta? Let's measure exactly what Delta has done to benefit our state since the merger."

Don't get me wrong - I want Chisholm to remain, I support them, my contact with them has been fantastic - but if Delta wants to invest in a proven service, let them do it, it seems like the request for a loan from the state is a shakedown.

Cheers,
Pogopossum

I'd rather see my tax dollars go to the Chisholm call center than to building and improving sports stadiums.

How about be a great corporate citizen and spend their own money and donate what amount would have been the forgivable loan to local schools or something.
1) If MN didn't offer subsidies, some other state would.
2) If taxpayers don't like economic development grants, then they should take that up with their public officials.
3) To which state should DL be a "great corporate citizen"?

At least we aren't trading in stupid regional stereotypes.

These stats seem to indicate that many of the Iron Range schools are behind the state averages.

This could be consistent with being well above the averages of most other states.

To states that Delta has major operations in or does a significant amount of business.

At least sport stadiums are theoretically public spaces that generate economic activity beyond the jobs they provide in the actual building.
