As others have noted, they are more than in the "same region" - they are nearly the same town, separated by a few minutes driving.

First, the Range Regional Airport, which used to be called the Chisholm/Hibbing Airport (because it happens to sit in Chisholm) serves both cities.
As others have noted, they are more than in the "same region" - they are nearly the same town, separated by a few minutes driving.

I see your point and of course understand that this sometimes has to happen to prevent closures....but it's just mind boggling how huge corporations continue to get away with this stuff. I don't live in MSP anymore but did for many years....people in MN pay higher airfares than most other Delta stations so they already shovel lots and lots of dollars into DL's bank account. They have already suffered the loss of most while collar high paying jobs after the merger, and now they have to PAY to keep jobs in the state? I'd like to see who, in the end, actually wins?

As a Minnesota resident, and I have not yet looked at all the details, my initial reaction was "Why in the world should we give anything to Delta? Let's measure exactly what Delta has done to benefit our state since the merger."
Don't get me wrong - I want Chisholm to remain, I support them, my contact with them has been fantastic - but if Delta wants to invest in a proven service, let them do it, it seems like the request for a loan from the state is a shakedown.
Cheers,
Pogopossum

When this was reported in todays Star Tribune, the twin cities paper, the comment section was full of people very angry about the idea that Delta would get corporate welfare from MN to build this. I share this frustration....Delta is in great shape right now, why in the world do they need to take money from tax payers to build a new building? How about be a great corporate citizen and spend their own money and donate what amount would have been the forgivable loan to local schools or something.
2) If taxpayers don't like economic development grants, then they should take that up with their public officials.
3) To which state should DL be a "great corporate citizen"?

These stats seem to indicate that many of the Iron Range schools are behind the state averages.
