Suite upgrades do happen...
I've been in both the panoramic and the exec on the 14th floor and yes they are identical except that the panoramic room has an I pod docking station.
In regards to the suites at this property, never had one and I guess I'll never will even though they are available, I guess they don't give them out to plats.

Got one once.
It is formed from two rooms merged together.
Extra space, and nice, but somewhat lackluster execution as it feels like two rooms merged together with a dividing wall between the bedroom and the sitting room (where the other room wall was).
If given a choice, I'd rather have their Butler Service!

My stays are always long there, not less than two weeks.

It was for 1 or 2 night only.
I find that on longer stays, the success rate for suite upgrades anywhere drops dramatically. Possibly due to the hotel not wanting to part with such fine inventory for longer stays.

Agreed. Hopefully that's not the case for my trip to San Francisco in 2 months (staying for 2 weeks).

Bugs (maybe bedbugs...) but no apology -- what's the right reaction?
Am currently in the Park Tower. Woke up in the middle of the night to find a small bug crawling on me. Jumped. Found it and its friend. Killed it (or maybe the friend) and the other vanished.
Tried to sleep and failed. Wrapped the bug in a sheet of paper, and sealed it in an envelope, went to the f-desk on my way out to a speech this morning. Apologised nicely to lady at desk for bad start to her day, but said "there's a bug in here. It was crawling on my face. I hope it's not a bedbug."
Came back 8 hours later. Speech not that great as sleepless night with bug-nightmares. Arrive at front desk, and give my name, and room number, and ask (politely) if there are any arrangements made to change my room. confusion. After a minute I am asked if I want to speak to the duty manager. I ask if the duty manager wishes to speak to me? They hem and haw. They give me a room key to a new room (and offer to send a man up to carry my solitary bag). I decline, pack my bag and move rooms. I will check out a night earlier because it's gross, but I didn't have time to deal tonight. Had they offered to move me to another hotel, I would have taken it. But I can't be arsed to fight -- I'm jet-lagged and exhausted.
I am really quite offended that there was no apology. I'm not the compensation type, and sorry, I don't really even care for more bloody points. But if I wake up with a bug crawling on my face, I expect the duty manager to WANT to talk to me and apologise. That's all. It would be nice if they offered to pay for the drycleaning (and would retain my custom) since I'm not keen on having bedbugs. I will chuck the suitcase.
But silence? Not even a form note in the room saying "we're sorry for your inconvenience, please accept some stale peanuts by way of apology"?
Not acceptable anywhere. Definitely not acceptable if you are a 'luxury collection hotel." I stay here 2/3 times a year, I'm a platinum...but that shouldn't matter at all! I'm very disappointed. But do you think I'm wrong to feel this way? Should I be more outraged?
Tiredly,
[update: got a phone call from front desk manager. After I posted this(??). Still didn't use the magic word (that's sorry, as that's apparently less widely known than I think!). He asked if I was comfortable in my new room. Said they would check the previous roomfor bedbugs tomorrow. I said "I'm concerned about having to dryclean all my clothes and chuck my suitcase. Would have been nice if he'd said "don't worry, we'll take care of that if it's necessary. He didn't."
Hmm. Still curious for a response?

I think the best way is to send this to the proper channels in Starwood.

Credit Card
Hey guys first time I'll be staying here, will they ask for a hold on my credit card if its pre-paid room, or do they just take the details. In case they ask for a hold, will I just be able to give a cash deposit, if so how much.
Thanks
Thanks

I think a cash deposit would be ok for a pre-paid rate, they take 50 GBP per night as a deposit.

A few more recent reference points for those needing to know based on my recent stay (April 2011):
-"Executive Room" on 6th floor was my "upgrade" as SPG Gold
-"No room available" at check-in was accompanied be a "1 free drink" in the lounge with a note provided from the check-in clerk
-Hublot watches ($$$$$) for sale in lobby store
-Great location: close to the park, tourist-ridden Harrods, and most importantly, multiple tube stations
-Rooms in the x04 - x10 range seem to have the best view to the main blvd. out front (which is really the back based on where the entrance is), including the Mandarin Oriental and the Kuwait Embassy
-Car service (not taxi) to LHR was L85.00 including tips; billed to room before departure
-No bed bugs

Checked in and received my standard Executive room. The front desk staff greeted me by name as soon as I approached them. Impressive, considering it's been 4 months since my last stay!
On the flip side of the "Breakfast a Emporter" card they give you, I saw something new:
"As a Platinum SPG guest we invite you to present this card to receive 25% off your lunch or dinner food bill (from the a la carte menu) in One-O-One Restaurant.
...Please note this is a trial offer and may be subject to changes based on your valuable feedback."
Not for everybody, but it's a nice option to have. Too bad you can't use it for breakfast.

something funny i forgot to post 6 years ago (in pre 2007 thread) >
the look on the chef concierge's face at the sheraton park tower, when a "regular" concierge (who i asked) asked him what mortons club was, was priceless (as he looked at me) - he knew what/where it was, and was clearly not impressed by my appearance/bearing/tone. ill give him credit for recognizing im not incognito wealthy though, and assume he was capable of doing so. he also simply said "Berkeley Square" and nothing else, so again credit for not questioning/explaining.

For my latest stay, I applied two confirmed suite upgrades to an Executive Suite (only upgrade option offered). The upgrade was confirmed 5 days out, and worked as advertised. If you want a suite at this property, the Suite Night Award may be the way to go.
The suite itself is literally two regular rooms with the connecting door open. One room is designated the living room, while the other, the bedroom. As such, there are two full-sized bathrooms. Its furnished quite well and I have no complaints. I was brought a complimentary 750mL bottle of water and half-bottle of 2011 Chilean Merlot, which was a first for me at this property. There are also two mini-bars in the room, with one being empty for you to stick any food in.
Staff was friendly, room service was quick and the food was good as usual. Shepherds pie and Bangers and mash have been taking off the menu though. Shame, as those were one of my favorites!

Stayed again last night, but had a colleague travelling with me, so I had booked two rooms. The hotel is pretty busy due to the usual London summer peak period, plus Wimbledon is in full swing.
Went to check in at 7pm and only one of the two rooms was available. We ended up having a bit of a conversation with the member of staff checking us in whilst she waited on feedback from housekeeping. After a few minutes it looked like there would be a bit of delay getting the 2nd room ready. We were both offered a drink in the bar and breakfast in the morning for the inconvenience of waiting for the room.
In the end, the room wasn't available until about 7:40pm, so not ideal. Have to praise the member of staff who looked after us well without any prompting. Good pro-active service once again.

Early Check-in?
Any experience with early check-in? My wife arrd I arrive early next week (pre-Olympics) for our anniversary. Hoping for noon or so check-in. We'll request in advance, but curious how likely it may be (depending of course on previous night occupancy).
