Tried to sleep and failed. Wrapped the bug in a sheet of paper, and sealed it in an envelope, went to the f-desk on my way out to a speech this morning. Apologised nicely to lady at desk for bad start to her day, but said "there's a bug in here. It was crawling on my face. I hope it's not a bedbug."
Came back 8 hours later. Speech not that great as sleepless night with bug-nightmares. Arrive at front desk, and give my name, and room number, and ask (politely) if there are any arrangements made to change my room. confusion. After a minute I am asked if I want to speak to the duty manager. I ask if the duty manager wishes to speak to me? They hem and haw. They give me a room key to a new room (and offer to send a man up to carry my solitary bag). I decline, pack my bag and move rooms. I will check out a night earlier because it's gross, but I didn't have time to deal tonight. Had they offered to move me to another hotel, I would have taken it. But I can't be arsed to fight -- I'm jet-lagged and exhausted.
I am really quite offended that there was no apology. I'm not the compensation type, and sorry, I don't really even care for more bloody points. But if I wake up with a bug crawling on my face, I expect the duty manager to WANT to talk to me and apologise. That's all. It would be nice if they offered to pay for the drycleaning (and would retain my custom) since I'm not keen on having bedbugs. I will chuck the suitcase.
But silence? Not even a form note in the room saying "we're sorry for your inconvenience, please accept some stale peanuts by way of apology"?
Not acceptable anywhere. Definitely not acceptable if you are a 'luxury collection hotel." I stay here 2/3 times a year, I'm a platinum...but that shouldn't matter at all! I'm very disappointed. But do you think I'm wrong to feel this way? Should I be more outraged?
Tiredly,
[update: got a phone call from front desk manager. After I posted this(??). Still didn't use the magic word (that's sorry, as that's apparently less widely known than I think!). He asked if I was comfortable in my new room. Said they would check the previous roomfor bedbugs tomorrow. I said "I'm concerned about having to dryclean all my clothes and chuck my suitcase. Would have been nice if he'd said "don't worry, we'll take care of that if it's necessary. He didn't."
Hmm. Still curious for a response?
I think the best way is to send this to the proper channels in Starwood.
