I've always stayed in an end suite, but the ones I've gotten have been below the tree line, with views obscured. Still -- it's a most enjoyable hotel. What should I be asking for (or send me a PM)? If you know specifically what I should ask for, I'll give 'em another shot.

Apart from the wonderful Datai Suite, I much prefer the end suites at The Datai. I like #120. You have pool views on one side and tree/jungle views on another, with distant views of the sea. None of the rooms have great views of the sea as the main buildings are quite distant from it - part of the charm of The Datai, as it unfolds from the entrance, gradually taking you down to the water, via jungle paths, bridges, the spa, the jungle villas, the second pool etc etc. Everywhere you go is an adventure!

I second that. Corner and end suites are great. Having stayed at a number of gorgeous Amans now after my two stays at the Datai I still consider it as a true luxury resort gem with it's marvelous jungle setting, excellent service and laid back Langkawi island. I'll definitely go back there ! An Aman at a grander scale IMO.

Agree completely...and 120 is one I've stayed in as well. The "view" issue is one aspect, though, where The Andaman has the edge: you're almost at waters' edge at the east end of the east building; you're up high; the suite is filled with light; and the thunderstorms can be spectacular.

The monkeys will steal your sugar and fruit, though, just like they will at The Datai. They don't care who runs either hotel.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, and found out this thread discussing about Amanresorts.

I heard Amanresorts would have a new property in Surakarta(or famously known as Solo_ in the province of Central java, Indonesia, folowing its former five amanresort properties.

Does anyone know any information about this?

FYI Solo/Surakarta was the capital of Javanese (Mataram) kingdom for more than 300 hundred years, preserving and becoming the centre of Javanese culture and tradition

Welcome to flyertalk Sundarma. I have not read or heard anything about a new Amanresort on Java. Amanjiwo near Yogyakarta is incredibly popular though, so another nearby would be welcome.

Hi Paul2,, Yes indeed, Amanjiwo is one of my favourite amanresorts, I just like the design and the location as well. Surakarta is like an hour from Yogyakarta, and incredibly fantastic for its high culture, tradition, as well as for its humble people.. If there's going to be another Amanresort on Java, or Indonesia, I'd love to see it in Surakarta

So what I read is that an Australian investor, Robert Murdock, is going to invest US$20 juta for a new Amanresort in Surakarta. The location was planned to be in the area of Keraton Surakarta (Surakarta palace, the senior of Yogyakarta palace) and was planned to start construction in March-April 2010.

Very interesting New Amanresort Rumour!

Dear Sudarma,

thank you very much for your interesting Sukarta-rumor - I copied it to the

"New Amanresorts" thread, where we discuss exactly things like that:

Also I put your information up in the initial roundup of the same thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luxur...nt-thread.html

Amanquestion - Banda?

Has anyone taken the trip on Amanikan on the Amanwana Banda Expedition?

The Banda island look exciting and different enough to the Komodo expedition:
