Just saw that the Amanresort in Montenegro will open next week at the former Hotel Milocer now called Villa Milocer as the first part of the project and the Sevti Stefan will open in August of 2009. Sounds like the whole project will be called Aman at Sevti Stefan. You can read it all under Aman News in their web site. Rooms will have fireplaces so that could make it really nice till the warm weather in the summer.
The first phase at Amansvetistefan (the hotel Milocer) is open during december.
Rates are 400 for a garden view suite, 500 for a seaview and 600 for Queen Marija suite.
I have received the following email from amanresorts:
"Amanresorts is undertaking a beautiful restoration of the historic island of Sveti Stefan and Villa Milocer set on 32 hectares of conifer forestland. "
"The six suites of Villa Milocer, a graceful summer house built in 1934 by Queen Marija overlooking its own pink sandy beach are officially open and during the summer of 2009, Aman Sveti Stefan will be launched including the 15th century island village of Sveti Stefan."
"During the month of January Villa Milocer will have a seasonal closure. Please do let me know if you would be open to joining us during December if your travel plans are open to change. "
"The suites in Villa Milocer have two different aspects: Sea View Suites offer views over Milocer Beach towards the island of Sveti Stefan whilst the Garden View Suites enjoy views of the Milocer gardens. "
"I have attached our information & rate sheet for your reference."

Aman Sveti Stefan
H I S T O RY In a country famed for its beauty, the
most iconic images associated with Montenegro are of the
tiny islet named Sveti Stefan. Attached to the coast by a
narrow isthmus, this island was once a fortified fishing
village dating back to the 15th century. Today its exterior
is unchanged, remaining a cluster of sturdy stone buildings
with tiled roofs set amongst hardy evergreen trees. The
interior, however, has undergone two transformations in
the past 80 years. The island of Sveti Stefan became a
hotel in the 1950s when the last villagers moved onto
the mainland, and became a high-profile destination
amongst celebrities from the fashion and entertainment
worlds. In 2007, the island was entrusted to Amanresorts
on a 30-year lease. Aman Sveti Stefan will be revealed
in the summer of 2009, an island retreat paying homage
to the regions incredible past.
As the painstaking rejuvenation of Sveti Stefan
commenced, just across the bay, Amanresorts also began
the restoration of Villa Miloˇcer, the former summer residence
of Queen Marija Karadordevic, and later of Josip
Broz Tito, the leader of Yugoslavia until 1980. Queen
Marija, the great granddaughter of Queen Victoria and
the Queen Consort of King Aleksandar of Yugoslavia, was
intimately involved in the decoration and style of Villa
Miloˇcer, which commenced construction in 1934 and was
completed in January 1936.
ACCOMMODATION Aman Sveti Stefan will
offer 55 guest rooms and suites, 47 of which are located
on the island of Sveti Stefan, 6 suites within Villa Miloˇcer
and two one-bedroom Queen Marija Suites.
Villa Miloˇcers spacious rooms harmoniously blend
the regal grandeur of old Europe with the comfort and
style of today. Parquet floors are warmed
by woollen rugs and a fireplace takes
centre stage. Leather chairs and silk
accents bring a contemporary brightness
to the living quarters while bathrooms
feature parquet and antico stone floors,
free-standing bathtubs and timber
wardrobes. All of the suites have wireless
internet access and Juliet balconies with
views over the sea towards Sveti Stefan
or the gardens.
ACTIVITIES AND CULTURAL
E X P E R I E N C E S Aman Sveti
Stefan will offer personalized guided
excursions to scenic and cultural attractions
along the coast and spectacular
interior of Montenegro. These include
boating on the Adriatic, visits to the old
town of Budva, exploring the Bay of Kotor,
experiencing the magic of the peaceful
Skadar Lake, mountain climbing, cycling and bird watching.
The region is blessed with beautiful beaches and from
the summer of 2009 an array of water sports such as
sailing, diving and fishing will also be offered at the resort.

"There are 6 suites (sea or garden view) in Hotel Milocer and two one bedroom Queen Marija suites. "- Amanresorts
So 8 suites in total.
There will be 47 suites on Sveti Stefan itself.
There are two restaurants in Milocer : 'The Dining Room' and the less formal 'The Loggia'.
On Sveti Stefan there will be 'The Restaurant' , 'The Terrace' , 'The Thai Restaurant' 'The Pizzeria' and 'The pastry Salon'.
On the mainland adjacent to Sveti Stefan the re is 'The Olive Restaurant' along with a tapas bar and gelateria.

Amanpizza??? I don't know if I should feel proud since I am Italian, but this sounds too much "Club Med" to my ears....
I am so curious about this place... I wonder whether the resort includes the two beaches on the side of isthmus which links SS to the mainland or only that in front of Villa Milocer... I am not sure how the typical Amanjunkie mingles with locals...
Anyway, there are loads of pics of the place in the internet and it really looks stunning.

Actually they may be trying to appeal to europeans who take a big summer holiday and sometimes get tired of eating fine or exotic dinners every night and/or have children.

The world is in a great crises. At least that's what they say... Never the less I was informed that most of the Aman Resorts are full for the New Year - Amanpuri (off course, everyone wants to be with Adrian Zecha and he is always there at this time of the year) Amanyara (the most expensive Aman, is also full), Amanjena, Le Melezin, Amanwella, Amangani.
Of course luxury turism will suffer, what we don't know is that if it is going to be big or not. They say that in particular in remote areas the problem of access will become more relevant ...
Well, that is good for Europe and resorts near USA.

That being said, I really wonder whether a project like Amangiri has much of a chance of coming to fruition in a climate like this one ...

Aman New Year
New Year at an Aman is normally pretty special - fireworks, great hospitality etc etc, but then, it depends upon where you are. I have only ever done New Year at Amanpulo and Amanpuri, but I cannot imagine they would not push the boat out elsewhere.

The new years eve dinner and 'spectacle' was out of this world and truely fitting for a stunning location. Perhaps our most memorable new year ever.

At Amanwana they put on a low-key tropical party and dinner with fireworks and all. Pretty fun time overall, but very casual and relaxed. There are only 11 tents, so it isn't like there is a huge crowd.

18 out of 20
Currently staying at Amanwana: We were told, that on new years eve 18 out of 20 tents are already booked this year. Despite the financial crisis... (BTW: What a great, great location that is here...)
