Aman Sveti Stefan

H I S T O RY — In a country famed for its beauty, the
most iconic images associated with Montenegro are of the
tiny islet named Sveti Stefan. Attached to the coast by a
narrow isthmus, this island was once a fortified fishing
village dating back to the 15th century. Today its exterior
is unchanged, remaining a cluster of sturdy stone buildings
with tiled roofs set amongst hardy evergreen trees. The
interior, however, has undergone two transformations in
the past 80 years. The island of Sveti Stefan became a
hotel in the 1950s when the last villagers moved onto
the mainland, and became a high-profile destination
amongst celebrities from the fashion and entertainment
worlds. In 2007, the island was entrusted to Amanresorts
on a 30-year lease. Aman Sveti Stefan will be revealed
in the summer of 2009, an island retreat paying homage
to the region’s incredible past.
As the painstaking rejuvenation of Sveti Stefan
commenced, just across the bay, Amanresorts also began
the restoration of Villa Miloˇcer, the former summer residence
of Queen Marija Karadordevi´c, and later of Josip
Broz Tito, the leader of Yugoslavia until 1980. Queen
Marija, the great granddaughter of Queen Victoria and
the Queen Consort of King Aleksandar of Yugoslavia, was
intimately involved in the decoration and style of Villa
Miloˇcer, which commenced construction in 1934 and was
completed in January 1936.

ACCOMMODATION — Aman Sveti Stefan will
offer 55 guest rooms and suites, 47 of which are located
on the island of Sveti Stefan, 6 suites within Villa Miloˇcer
and two one-bedroom Queen Marija Suites.
Villa Miloˇcer’s spacious rooms harmoniously blend
the regal grandeur of old Europe with the comfort and
style of today. Parquet floors are warmed
by woollen rugs and a fireplace takes
centre stage. Leather chairs and silk
accents bring a contemporary brightness
to the living quarters while bathrooms
feature parquet and antico stone floors,
free-standing bathtubs and timber
wardrobes. All of the suites have wireless
internet access and Juliet balconies with
views over the sea towards Sveti Stefan
or the gardens.

ACTIVITIES AND CULTURAL
E X P E R I E N C E S — Aman Sveti
Stefan will offer personalized guided
excursions to scenic and cultural attractions
along the coast and spectacular
interior of Montenegro. These include
boating on the Adriatic, visits to the old
town of Budva, exploring the Bay of Kotor,
experiencing the magic of the peaceful
Skadar Lake, mountain climbing, cycling and bird watching.
The region is blessed with beautiful beaches and from
the summer of 2009 an array of water sports such as
sailing, diving and fishing will also be offered at the resort.
