...I know it's moaning on the highest level but it's on the wrong side of the island IMHO. Southern beach is much nicer (to me the best beach I have ever seen) and serves as a big private pool anyway.

Better beach than some in the Maldives - it's hard to compare. The sand is pure white with lots of little nuggets of red coral. Either side of the island is pretty amazing - the villas are on the opposite side to the main hotel casitas.

very confusing...

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...ow/5035334.cms
India’s largest property firm, DLF...is planning various options to fully or partly exit from the international luxury hotel chain Amanresorts that the developer had purchased at the peak of the economic boom in 2007 end. The company has also held preliminary talks with at least two Indian hotel chains, but a huge gap between the buyer and seller’s expectations has played spoilsport for concrete deal discussions.

In 2007, Adrian Zecha, announced that he has formed an equal partnership with DLF, which has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a controlling interest in the Aman Resorts group. DLF, currently, holds 50% in Aman and as per the agreement, would acquire controlling stake in due time.

A senior DLF executive, who asked not to be named, said: “There is surely an interest among potential buyers. They have spoken to us. But it’s just been talks, little else, as their offer price is too low compared with the price we had paid for Aman in 2007.” He did not name the companies that has shown interest in Aman.

But the DLF spokesman denied the company was planning to dilute equity or sell any property of Amanresorts. In the past, while announcing the company’s falling interest in the hotel business, DLF vice-chairman Rajiv Singh had said the company would want to retain Aman as it was a boutique brand. As per two hotel industry executives, who did not wish to be named, DLF has held some preliminary talks with ITC Hotels. But the ITC spokesman said: “We have made no move” to acquire stake in Amanresorts. But hotel consultants said it makes sense for an Indian hotel company like ITC to bid for Aman since they have no presence in that segment.

Another senior hotel industry executive said DLF could consider an option to hive off Aman properties in Alwar, Rajasthan, and two loss-making properties in Sri Lanka to some investors or hotel chain without the Aman brand.
(amanbagh, amanwella, amangalla)

Amanbag[h] hosts second culinary experience in October

Peta Mathias returns to Amanbagh from 10 – 20 October 2009 to lead a culinary programme. Peta regularly conducts cooking classes in Provence and Morocco, is featured on her own TV programme and writes books on all things gastronomic. Guests can explore local villages to obtain buffalo and goat’s milk for a cheese-making class, utilize local spices and techniques in sessions on Indian cuisine and participate in an Indian and European bread making workshop. Picnics, musical evenings and gala dinners in different locations add to the experience.

my bad, forgot aman-i-khas is rajasthan as well, that makes more sense now.
Aman properties in Alwar, Rajasthan, and two loss-making properties in Sri Lanka
but yeah, makes no sense to sell aman-i-khas. amanbagh does get fairly mixed reports here though.

perhaps im showing a lack of understanding of india, or perhaps translation? DLF says theyre not selling, and ITC says theyre not buying, but the article still says >
DLF...is planning various options to fully or partly exit
even headline says differently
DLF may exit Amanresorts
* who told india times "DLF may exit aman" ?

* if DLF is "india's largest property firm" why do talks with ITC have to be about aman?

http://in.reuters.com/article/busine...42594020090921
DLF spokesman Sanjey Roy, however, told Reuters: "It is a totally speculative and baseless report."

In my experience, all Indian newspapers make things up as they go along. If someone says no comment, they create the comment. I am always amazed at some of the things I have 'said'!

Amanbagh is in Alwar, not Aman-i-Khas. I suspect neither makes much money, but that is also true of some other Amans. DLF must have known this when they bought.

stayed at 4 amans this year thus far and i did get a feeling that there was some air of " desperation " in the widest defination of the word , there is definately pressure to perform better and in some cases nickle and diming but done in the best possible fashion.

amanwella was a diasaster in everyway hard and software , [ and the worst of the properties i stayed in] except for the smiles and gestures of the staff but that was about it....smiles and gestures .......which almost buty did not save the day

the best was at aman summer palace followed closely by sara.

DLF plans were at best ambitious and could not have come at the worse time when they bought aman.....but there is now a need to really CONSOLIDATE and realign strategies .

they cant go the way of GHM and losing properties although i suspect aman owners tend to be in it for the long haul

BTW.......new GHM > CHEDI CAIRO if it ever opens

Could you elaborate on this? We did not sense this at all in the properties we stayed in.
