I sleep through the SAS breakfasts on long-haul flights. Skipped them most of the time before the pandemic, as I haven’t liked SAS breakfasts for going on decades. And during the pandemic, waking up to the SAS breakfasts is more akin to waking up to a breakfast nightmare than waking up to a dream breakfast.

SK had already trained me on skipping breakfast on-board.

For what it’s worth or not, I have been barely nibbling into even the dinner meals on many of my SK ORD/IAD/EWR-CPH flights in business class during this pandemic. SK has sort of trained me to eat dinner before boarding this year.
SK had already trained me on skipping breakfast on-board.

The look of embarrassment on the crews faces were well curated too. Kind of felt sorry for them to have to work with such little offerings
the flight attendant even said so when I asked what beer was on offer 🤷🏼♂️

I just got off the 15 August SK944 ORD-CPH flight in J. Oh. My. God. The flight crew waited until we were airborne to tell us that due to the incoming flight having been canceled, we were flying back on an SAS A330 plane typically used for cargo. They then proceeded to blame this canceled flight and change of airplane for the fact that they had essentially zero drinks service. The offerings were water, orange juice, or apple juice. They somehow managed to get some food onboard, but I slept through the entire flight rather than subject myself to that embarrassment of a business class meal service. I mean seriously. They said all their drinks were on the canceled flight's airplane in CPH. Who makes that decision to just not source a proper service for premium passengers?

I don't know. I did wake up for the breakfast service, which was completely uninspiring. Cold meat and cheese, yogurt, fruit. I wonder if everyone on the flight, no matter where they sat, got the same food offerings. Disgraceful on the part of SAS, and I'm usually one to cut the airlines more slack in these times. But there was no reason not to source a full (covid anyway) service. They had a whole day to figure it out. The canceled flight was on the 14th. Our flight didn't leave until 10pm on the 15th.

It seems to me at times that SAS has on-board food and beverage sales as a priority more than other service in-flight. Could it be that they continued F&B sales on board in the typical manner despite the other catering fails?

BoB on SAS
Well, the BoB on SAS isn't any better. It's poor and greatly overpriced. On my DUS-CPH today I ordered the Maracuja or something chocolate bar, only to see that it is made my Mondelez, which is just a pretentious name for the European division of Kraft. None of the other stuff inspired me. And there's no way I am paying €6.50 for a little bottle of Carlsberg, the worst beer this side of the galaxy. Even if they paid me, I wouldn't drink it
For the second flight, CPH-GVA, I pre-ordered a fish meal for €11. It turned out to be a cold meal, with potatoes that hadn't been cooked properly, lentil like rabbit foody bits and a few strips of uncooked salmon. I think it was supposed to be uncooked, must be a Danish thing. But I ate it because I was hungry. Felt queasy afterwards, though. Told the cabin crew it was really awful, would never order that swill again (practically nobody touched the BoB menu and certainly nobody ordered those pre-order meals apart from me, on a full flight). The cabin crew got really concerned and started offering me this and that from the BoB trolley, which is pretty good service recovery (hello, British Airways). They were really sweet, actually, and I accepted a chicken and mushroom sandwich to scoff later (really felt a bit dodgy after that pre-ordered cold meal). But once again, I can't believe they're charging €7 for two half bits of sandwich, just like the ones you get in Economy on KLM.
Why the hell can't the airlines just offer proper service?? All it would take is €10-15 extra on the ticket.

That being said having flown now mostly KLM/AF Y and J flights I can say it leaves one very relaxed and happy compared with AY J/SK Y+/ba J on shorthaul.
Cant comment on LH yet but next week I will be wiser.... SK used to offer Mikkler beers which were awesome! I can't drink Carlsberg or Heineken for that matter unless ICECOLD!

As part of the included service in economy class on TATL flights, SK has at times given out polar rolls in economy class. Not something to my liking, but some really love that kind of bread being used for a sandwich of sort.
By my estimate of what that bread was on for sale a few weeks ago and what else may go into those rolls, my bet is that labor costs for getting those "polar rolls" to passengers is a much higher proportion of the cost of the product -- including ingredients -- than was typical for included meals in the years before SAS tried to charge for even water on short-haul flights.
