Vegetarian choices in the Intl terminal A gates?

Any vegetarian choices near the A gates in the international terminal (airside) ? Family connecting US domestic → international will have 3 hours to kill

What terminal are they arriving in? Everything is connected airside now.

The closest option with a variety of choices would probably be in Terminal 1, Mama Go's Filipino Restaurant has many vegetarian options all day
In Terminal 2, The Plant Cafe has many vegetarian options as well

T3

so they would need to grab food, in T1. Exit secure area. Check in bags at airline counter in the international terminal, clear security for the A gates airside

If they need to recheck bags (rather than checking everything through from their first flight), the most efficient path is to exit at T3, walk landside to the International Terminal, check their bags there, then clear security at International A, then walk airside to T1 for food options there.

If they do NOT need to recheck bags, they could stay inside security and walk from T3 -> T2 -> T1 -> A, and eat somewhere along the way. It's a longer walk but does not require clearing security at any point.

Is this on a single ticket or separate? What airline(s) are involved?

Either way, it's California, I feel like pretty much anywhere is going to have a vegetarian option...

No. Deal with the bags first (assuming they are not checked through). Then clear security at either A or T1.

to wrap up with our experience,
- the family member was traveling *A , so bags were checked through
- they didn’t have to collect bags, check them in etc
- they exited secure area in T1, checked in to their international leg at the airline desk
- cleared security again in the international terminal for the A gates and
- walked airside to The Club near the B gates

that worked out well enough for them. Thanks for the suggestions here

Yes, not many restaurants here have zero vegetarian options, though I'm guessing that the options probably aren't too good at restaurants that make meat their focus.

All (maybe? Certainly most) of the airport restaurants have their menus on the flysfo.com website. I generally just use Google to find them (eg, lark creek sfo menu, number 1 hit is https://www.flysfo.com/sites/default...Grill_Menu.pdf)

Thanks in advance for your help. Arriving next week on UA33 from MEL, transferring to YYZ on AC with just over 4 hour layover (all on same ticket). I'm aware of having to navigate customs, pick up and re-deposit bags, etc., Will there be time to go to 'Freshen Up' or are there other paid lounges w showers we could access? Cheers.

Unless your flight is badly delayed or you have terrible luck with immigration/customs, you should have plenty of time for a shower. You could buy a day pass at one of the a lounges with showers, but in my experience, there's often a waitlist for showers that would take too long for you.

I'd go with Freshen Up. Then go through security and get to your concourse (I'm guessing D for Air Canada). Probably time for a snack or beverage there as you wait for your flight.

What restaurant would not have a "vegetarian option" except perhaps a burger joint?
  • Almost every place has salads, and always some options without chicken or eggs.
  • Almost every place has breakfast option with pastries and can make any breakfast item without meat (though if you don't do eggs that will be limiting).
  • Almost every Mexican place can make burritos, etc. without just rice and beans (again more limiting if you don't want cheese)
Now if the question is are there any vegan restaurants or places where there is no meat in the cooking area, well, that would be unlikely at any airport in this country.

Well unlikely, but this is SFO, which now has an Amy's in the B gates. Amy's isn't vegan, but is meat-free. And you can get cheeze as a substitute for the cheese, notwithstanding the fact that real cheese is an option ;)

Have you eaten there? We're big fans of Amy's for their unusually good frozen entrées, and that's why it's never occurred to me to give their restaurant a try. I mean, do they just heat something up for you in a microwave?
