WASTE OF VALUE redeeming PC points for ANY item versus $ value for hotel stays

duplicate deleted.

The PC points made it to Mon. Yet best guess is we're looking at maybe Wed/Thu for the inventory to run out. Sort of wondering when the "Limited Banner" will appear.

PC points from Coke this year to top off for 2M. . .

HOWEVER, there is absolutely NO guarantee that the item(s) will still be
AVAILABLE at tinme you go to redeem.

Further, if you bother to research ACTUAL COST of item(s) you'll find
that redeeming PC points for them is a great big WASTE OF VALUE versus
just buying the damn thing(s).

Example you can get a Haier 19" LCD TV/DVD combo for 152,000 points.
Same TV sells for approximately $350 ...

Do you realize how many free reward nights you can get (even at HIX)
for 150,000 PC points ? (especially if your destination HIX os 15,000
a night -- or better yet "point breaks" at 5,000 a night . . .

Even if you use the $11.50 per 1,000 PC miles purchase price to figure
dollar value --

the $100 gift cards or "$100 AnyHotel/Anywhere" Amex cards for
38,900 PC points is a BIG WASTE of PC points !

So is the stupidity of exchanging 10,000 PC points for 2,000 airline miles.

FYI, there is minimum age restriction for BOLTH the MCR and
PC programs but that's a whole different issue.

You’re right, there is no guarantee the award you want will be there, so that’s definitely a risk a family takes. I also agree that accumulating hundreds of thousands of PC points for a cheap TV seems like a poor use of time and points.

Still, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Take the exchange of PC points for miles. Swapping for hotel awards may be the best value, but some people never stay in a hotel when they travel. Instead, they stay with family and friends, or they may choose condos or apartments. So if someone needs a couple of thousand airline miles to top off an account for a free trip to Europe, and has no use for free/discount hotel stays, then exchanging a relatively paltry 10,000 PC points earned from MCR for 2,000 miles might look very attractive. Why then denigrate that choice as an example of "stupidity", just because it doesn't represent a great value compared to the hotel awards? If anything, it's a smart move based on individual need.

Regarding your final point about age restriction requirements in MCR and PC: I wrote about a husband and wife and perhaps the “kids” pooling PC point awards to benefit the family member(s) most in need. My use of the term “kids” was meant to be a casual reference to children old enough to participate in the program. (Plenty of people refer to their grown children as “our kids" or “our children.”) It would have been clearer if I had put an age on the children, so I apologize if there was a misunderstanding.

For the record, the MCR minimum age is only 13, and the PC requirement is 18. But even if you take "the kids" out of the picture, the premise of my post still stands: There could be a valid reason for family members to delay the deposit of PC awards earned through MCR, then pool those PC point awards and direct them into specific accounts. The same would hold true for the MCR Delta awards, may they rest in peace.

Yo, BB, U can get a little closer now! ;) MCR has brought back the 2000-point PC award @ the same 625 Coke points!
The bad news is 'Limit 1 Per Account' for life! Gee, I hope they mean starting now, not counting those we got last year.

As we would have expected with the new and improved MCR program, past awards count. I tried and advised I had already exceeded the approved number of awards for this reward. How lucky can we get???

I think that I can speak for most of us PC point-collectors
when I say, "they can take the 1-for-life restriction" and place
it in the darkest spot on their person imaginable...

Bad enought the measly 500 pointers can only be had 2 every
ROLLING 30 DAYS not a monthly award...

and what can you do with 2x500= 1,000 x 12= 12,000 year
or 1 x 2,000 year ?

Only brainless twits smokin' crack think that's cool

Actually 12K will get you two nights with a couple K left over to spare in Point Break hotels

TH, there are precious few PB hotels & usually only their off-seasons. The "normal" rate is 15K & some are even 25--30--40K. One free night every year or 2 does not excite people. It's OK mainly for topping off acct.s of bona-fide Holiday Inn customers.

Honestly, I thought MCR had learned its lesson about 3 per life when it changed to 2 per 30 days. I would have expected them to offer 1 (2000) per month likewise.

I have tried to log in for three days and I keep getting an error message. Has anyone been able to log in?

SJS58 Mar 17, 2009 10:05 pm

There is now a 625 point reward for 2000 PC points. It says limited time. Unfortunately, the message indicates that it doesn't work, so I hope it's just coming on line and will work later. The other option is that this "new" reward is counting my earlier deposits and I'll be locked out of this limited time offer.

I believe it is option B. Anyone who has already redeemed for 2000 points can't get this one.:(

Okay, I'm embarrassed to admit this, but here goes anyway:

Last year (or was it two years ago?) I spent some MCR points for the last available Delta Skymiles awards (was it 1170 miles or something?). I got codes that could be deposited at a Delta web site, and the t&c with the codes said the codes were valid for, like, 10 years or something. So I held onto the codes for a while, to see if I might need something via Coupon Connection, that I could trade the codes for.

Now I've just remembered about this, and I'd like to try to deposit the miles, but I can't seem to find the Delta web site to make the deposit. It is possible that I already made the deposit, and the codes are already dead, but I think it's more likely that I still have not yet made the deposit. So I'd like to find the web site and try the deposit to see if it goes through.

Does anyone have a link to that web site?

Wasn't speaking to / nor addressing PC point-breaks per se

Ah, T-H, my Georgia Bulldog friend . . true, TH BUT
those "point-break hotel nights" for 5k are only good if you have
business or going to those off-the-track places, like
"Swampy-Sand-Flea", South Carolina, or "Wasteland, Arizona" etc

Again, though there HAVE been some very RARE good ones like Prague etc.

I was speaking more to the "standard" of requiring a minimum of 15k-25k
for HI and HIX awards, and as we both know many MORE PC points are
needed for that presidential suite at the royalty IH properties, which
you will NEVER see in among the "point-breaks."
