Damaged bag claim
Has anyone been successful in getting Ryanair to pay for a damaged bag?
I filled out the form at the airport and submitted a case to Ryanair through the website, got initial confirmation. It's been 2 months - quiet. Any advice on next steps appreciated.

You don’t indicate which jurisdiction you are resident, if the flight departed from, or arrived in, Spain as 2 months have elapsed since you made your claim you should be able to make a claim via AviationADR - the alternative dispute resolution body. You will find more information here: https://www.aviationadr.org.uk/how-t...yanair-flight/
If your flight was not form or to Spain then you will have to follow the civil court procedure the jurisdiction in which you reside.

So, I guess that gives me my answer. Unfortunate, as those "cheap" FR tickets end up costing a lot more.

Jurisdiction in which I reside is different from either that from or to which the flight was, neither of these 3 is Spain, and in no case is a civil court a viable option.

The options really differ depending on where you flew from and to. Despite the EU having many common rules regulating consumer protection for airline passengers, the escalation process is not exactly the same. And it is possible to fly non-EU to non-EU on Ryanair, which could be another set of rules to deal with. So if you can give a little bit more specifics on the route, it might be possible to advise if there are options other than just sue them, or if it is more likely to be sunk cost.

It'd be great if someone with specific experience could chime in.

So, after calling Ryanair claims twice a week for the last few weeks, spending 1 hr on hold each time, and being promised the case "will be escalated" each time, I finally got a response and an offer of $70 (for a $300 bag). Happy end Ryanair style (although there is a little issue of actually being paid).

Spoke way too soon. Ryanair cs rep assigned to handle this issue proceeded to gaslight me for over a month. Support thread over 20 emails long with all sorts of Kafkaesque reasons why the money cant be sent to me.
Tried to call customer service again, 1+ hour on hold, and when I finally gave them the case specifics - they hung up on me (twice!)
When all else failed, contacted one of the Ryanair vps directly. As a result today a short email from another cs rep, referencing the vp by name, includes a (very curt) apology and "your transfer has been successfully processed".
6 months and counting. Sure hope their management takes this to heart and cleans up their act.

I think we'll have to be brutal here - they won't, this is quite likely an intentional policy. If your reluctance to issue legal papers is typical, it's why FR generally gets away with it - they hope people will just give up. You will, quite possibly, still not see your money.
So if that transpires you have a choice - either change your stance and take the legal/enforcement route, or write the $70 off as not being worth your time. That's the blunt reality.
