Radisson BLU Uppsala

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson BLU, Uppsala, Sweden

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
For the stay YES, but for all hotel prices in Sweden NO

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
St booked, got upgraded to superior on 2nd highest floor

Did you receive elite benefits?

Upgrade - yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - not needed
Breakfast - included in rates anyway

In-Room Welcome Gift:
Nice artisan chocolate ^ good taste

How are the rooms?
New, fresh, clean, not huge but fairly ok size, coffee machine, slippers, decent wifi (was difficult to get it running at first)

What was good and what was bad?
New hotel, clean and nice, well located at train station to easy connect to Arlanda airport. Easy walking distance to see beautiful Uppsala riverside

Breakfast was great quality and choices, but there are not many seats really. Make sure your timing is good, since it will be too busy if hotel is full.

On top floor there is a gym but it was too small and the only disappointment

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
For the quality yes. I am always nagging about hotel prices in Sweden but I cannot stop it.

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Edinburgh, UK

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Very happy

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, received Business room

Did you receive elite benefits?
Although free breakfast is not an elite benefit, the front desk told me they give it out for free to all gold members. Also got a plate of sweets in the room plus two bottles of mineral water. Newspaper at door every morning.

How are the rooms?
Good size, nice and clean.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Location, gold benefits, condition of the hotel and rooms. Breakfast is quite extensive with a few Scottish specialties for order.

Bad:
Wall's not very sound-proof.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Booked using the 2-4-1 rate so quite cheap. Definitely will return.

Radisson Blu Royal Helsinki

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Royal Helsinki, Finland

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, very happy

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room 2-4-1 rate, got upgraded to business on the highest floor

Did you receive elite benefits?

Upgrade and two drink coupons for the lobby bar

In-Room Welcome Gift:
None

How are the rooms?
The room has seen its best days, but it was however in very good condition and clean. It also had the smoothest working tv I have seen in a Radisson hotel! The views were nice from the round window towards Kamppi.

What was good and what was bad?
I was very happy with the upgrade, as the hotel was full. The breakfast was a lot better than in Radisson Blu Seaside Helsinki and almost as good as in Radisson Blu Plaza Helsinki. I liked the Royal's staff the most of Helsinki properties.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Superb value with the 2-4-1 rate. Will definitely return another time.

Radisson Blu Edwardian New Providence Wharf, London

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Edwardian New Providence Wharf, London, UK

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room and got just that

Did you receive elite benefits?
No - absolutely none whatsoever. Not even a note.

In-Room Welcome Gift:
None

How are the rooms?
Tired. Glass-topped desk scratched up, a few marks on curtains. Very strange design - the only clothes storage is in the bathroom! There is a clothes rail and chest of drawers situated just inside the bathroom door, opposite the hand basin. Luckily, this was only a one night stay so I kept my clothes for the morning in my bag. I'd be worried about things getting damp on a long stay, if I had to hang them in the bathroom! Phone requires a passcode to access voicemail, but there's no guidance as to what that code might be...

What was good and what was bad?
Aside from the lack of status recognition and weird room design, I arrived to find a grand total of one towel in the bathroom (a bath towel). Had to call down for hand towels, etc. "One touch service" was extremely slow to answer the phone.

Toiletries in bottles that are bolted to the wall give a nasty, cheap impression (though this seems to be standard in all the "Edwardian" sub-brand hotels I've stayed in so far...)

Location is OKish by day - easily walkable from both Blackwall and East India DLR. Bit more difficult to get at once the DLR finishes for the night. Access slightly more difficult at the moment due to Crossrail works.

Only really good point was the lady on reception, who was extremely friendly and helpful with giving local directions, etc.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
It wasn't vastly overpriced (especially for a flexible rate) but it's definitely possible to do better for your money (in terms of both location and room quality). I wouldn't return.

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Park Inn Heathrow, London, UK

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes - decent property, modern rooms, generally reasonable for the price.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard double, no room upgrade. The usual poor Club Carlson definition of 'upgrade' applied, with a decent view and high floor though.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - No
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - Yes - Elliott's of Oxford Chocolate Box.

How are the rooms?
Modern (except for the burgundy bathrooms) and clean, reasonable size. Only minor complaints were the shower head is only as high as my chest (aarrgh!), and the TV was a little dated - flatscreen so not too bad, but small and a fair few years old.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Generally decent staff, free overnight parking when you spend £20 in the bar/restaurant (but not all staff know about this so be sure to ask on check in!), reasonable rooms, great location.
Bad: the aforementioned shower head, plus the fact the bar is quite small for the large size of the hotel so it gets very busy and difficult to find a seat.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Generally decent VfM - paid £67.50 on one occasion and £55.20 on another (excluding breakfast) which is fairly reasonable for Heathrow this time of year.
I would return, and have added it to my list of favourite Heathrow hotels, amongst the Radisson and the Holiday Inn Ariel.

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Leipzig, Germany

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Not really

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked superior room and got just that.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Well another superior room on a higher floor (7th vs. 4th) was offered as an upgrade. A joke as all else was the same incl. the view. But as long as Club Carlson T&Cs are allowing such things to be declared upgrades the hotel is in its rights and as a consequence I will only stay at this chain if nothing else works (e.g IHG or SPG).

In-Room Welcome Gift:
A bottle of water and some apples plus a letter

How are the rooms?
Newish, but lacking in my view. E.g. only showers are offered with only a few suites offering a bath tub. In Europe in Winter I prefer a bath every now and then so I think a portion of regular Superior or Deluxe / Business rooms should offer those and it should be spelled out in room descriptions. Also the tiles in the bathroom were very cold and only a tiny towel for the floor was offered. The pillows were super thin and soft with no neck support and I had to request for extra pillows plus some slippers. The bathroom also lacked any power outlets - guess electric shavers or toothbrushes are uncommon?

Location is good smack in the city center. All is easily walkable.

Breakfast is pretty decent with a range of offerings from eggs, hot items to cold buffet etc.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Maybe. I paid 115€ on a corp rate which is a tad expensive for the town. Our corp rate at Marriott in the same town and central location is only 85€, but was sold out. Even the Westin was running in the same price range, but I would not have had breakfast and internet included there.

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow, London, UK

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes - a nice property overall.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard double, recieved superior king.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - No - have stayed here many times and never had one.

How are the rooms?
Spacious, large bed, reasonable size TV. Couldn't complain.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Hotel overall is pretty decent, though I didn't use many of the services.
Complimentary overnight shoe shine is a big plus as they charge a fortune for it in Heathrow T5 (unlike LCY where it's free). Room service meal decent.

Bad: The TVs are quite new, but they run a horrible old hotel TV system which is totally unresponsive and difficult to navigate. The newer swisscom system in other Radissons is far superior.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Decent value for money, didn't wow me but didn't disappoint either. Stayed many times and it's a fairly decent property, though some rooms are a little tired.
Overall one of my preferred Heathrow hotels.

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Glasgow, UK

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes - very nice property with lovely rooms.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard double - hotel was nearly full and they said they could offer me a business class room but it would be a smoking room, so I declined and stuck with the standard room.
On less busy occasions, I have been upgraded to a junior suite here before - it's one of the best Carlson properties I've tried for upgrades.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Not available on this occasion, but very good previously.
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - This can be hit and miss at this Radisson, but it was spot on this time. Welcome plate of fruit, nuts and cake, plus a handwritten Welcome & Happy New Year card from the manager.

How are the rooms?
Very nice - wood flooring, large comfy beds, complimentary Tunnocks Caramel Bars in all rooms.
Only complaint would be that the TVs are flat wall mounted with no access to HDMI ports if like me you bring along a streaming box - and even if you do manage to squeeze your hand behind the TV, you then need to unlock the TV service menu and change a setting to be able to switch input.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Lovely Scottish staff, very nice rooms, brilliant Scottish breakfast.
Bad: It does get very busy as there aren't *that* many hotels in central Glasgow, so whilst they do offer decent elite upgrades, it's often not available.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Tends to be available for about £100 incl breakfast which is pretty good for what you get. This alongside Holiday Inn Theatreland are my two favourite Glasgow hotels.

Radisson Blu Old Town, Prague

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes - a nice property overall.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room on points, received suite upgrade.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - No. Suite had a (large) bottle of water.

How are the rooms?
Spacious, large bed, two TVs, huge bathroom, two toilets

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Great location...walking distance to two metro stations, close to the railway station (about a mile-I just walked from there when I got in town), ample restaurants around, nice property. Hotel arranged car service to the airport at 3am for 600KR (brand new Audi A4)

Bad: While I got a suite upgrade, the room was right next to their conference room and it was a bit noisy at times. Also, no view out from the room. And the staff while professional didn't seem too welcoming. Expensive breakfast....didn't eat here and ended up walking around the corner to SBUX.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Stayed on points. Worth it as the room rates were quite high and I was able to use the second night free/CC benefit.

No

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Reserved:Standard award room 1 Queen bed - Non-smoking
Received: High Floor, Standard room, 2 Queen beds

- Did you receive elite benefits?
Maybe upper floor room, early/late check in/out not requested

- How are the rooms?
Good size room, but space a little tight with the two queen beds.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Bed linens and pillows soft and high quality
Staff was friendly and efficient
Bad:
Motel 6 style in the wall heater/ac unit. Very noisy, interfered with sleep, drapes billowed out as it ran. Almost switched hotels because of this.
No doorman or bellhops to help me with my luggage
Bathroom OK size, towels rough, industrial type open front toilet seat without lid (don’t drop anything nearby!)
Room was clean but worn around the edges.
No electric outlet available at bedside.

- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Room was more like a Country Inn and Suites, not a Radisson. On the other hand, only 15k points for two nights with CC credit card. Will choose another property next time.

Satisfied

Standard Queen Room, received Standard Queen Room even though welcome letter from the hotel GM stated I had been upgraded to a suite

Modest, two beds, work table and chair, small bathroom, twin sinks

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Pleasant employees, 24-hour shuttle to local area, clean, free coffee and snacks in the lobby for guests departing early AM.

Bad: Rooms dated and in need of a refresh, free breakfast very crowded and servers somewhat overwhelmed; suburban location with virtually nothing else within walking distance (shuttle to local train station once per hour); rooms facing the airport surprisingly noisy.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Less than $100 a night; decent value for an airport hotel.
